Job responsibilities
To supervise and organise the technical diagnostic services within sections of the Biochemistry Department. To undertake both routine and complex analytical techniques to maintain service provision, to undertake specific designated managerial duties as required and to ensure that current accreditation standards are adhered to throughout. To be an efficient and flexible member of the Biochemistry laboratory team providing a high-quality diagnostic service through scientific and technical activities commensurate with the training and education of a Specialist Biomedical Scientist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). To maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD). To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality. The post holder will be expected to be prepared to work flexibly and maintain competencies to a standard required to enable them to work, or cover during periods of unplanned leave or sickness, on the Out of Hours rota which includes participation in a shift pattern with early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts as required. The main base will be as above, but work may be required at any site within NMCPS

Qualifications
Essential
BSc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science or equivalent Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Post Graduate Qualification MSc, FIBMS or equivalent or can demonstrate appropriate level of experience and knowledge in Biochemistry.
Desirable
Managerial or Leadership Qualification Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Biochemistry or equivalent
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
Previous experience of working in a Biochemistry Medical Laboratory Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, face to face, by phone and in writing with all levels of staff
Personal Qualities
Essential
Able to work individually and as part of a team, with the ability to plan, supervise and organise basic grade, trainee BMS and support grade staff in their day to day work Able to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service Prepared to work flexibly, including participation in a shift pattern which includes early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts and other out of hours rotas as required. Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if relevant - primary place of work as per JD but on rare occasion may reasonably be asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology services.
