This is a replacement consultant post based at the North Middlesex Hospital with a focus on asthma. The job will comprise a mix of inpatient care and outpatient clinics, with flexibility for successful applicants to develop the service according to their experience. There will be opportunities for service development, clinical research, and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. We are seeking consultant physicians with respiratory medicine experience who can deliver excellent patient care and contribute to service improvement. Our respiratory team at North Middlesex Hospital is friendly and dynamic, and we welcome new team members.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical care and leadership in outpatient settings
  • Conduct one weekly asthma clinic
  • Run two general respiratory clinics per week, including support for nurse-led clinics
  • Participate weekly in the NMH radiology meeting
  • Attend the RFLFT asthma MDT weekly
  • Opportunity to participate in EBUS and bronchoscopy rota
  • Opportunity to participate in pleural procedures list
  • Triage incoming referrals on the respiratory pathway
  • Manage the respiratory inpatient ward and referrals on a rotational basis
  • Supervise ward junior doctors

Additionally, participation in the North Middlesex Hospital acute medicine weekend rota is expected.

North Mid is part of the North Central London integrated care system, collaborating with NHS and local authority organizations across Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. We work closely with partners, sharing decision-making and approaches at the system level.

We pride ourselves on staff training to ensure excellent clinical care. The hospital is a training site for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, as well as nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT or equivalent in Respiratory & General Medicine, on the specialist register, or within 6 months of CCT at interview
  • MSc, MD, or PhD

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Effective communication with staff, patients, and relatives
  • Strong teaching skills with experience in training and education
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement methodologies
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Good organizational skills
