As a branch of the wider Paediatric Psychology service, General Paediatric Psychology aims to improve the psychological wellbeing of children and families living with a medical condition under the care of general paediatrics within Nottingham Children's Hospital.

Due to local investment we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Psychologist to develop and lead the general paediatric psychology service in NUH. As a branch of the wider Paediatric Psychology service, General Paediatric Psychology aims to improve the psychological wellbeing of children and families living with a medical condition under the care of general paediatrics within Nottingham Children's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be joining a welcoming and compassionate team of experienced and established Clinical Psychologists at a time of investment into new specialist areas of paediatric psychology. The Paediatric Psychology service supports children and families across specialist medical teams within Nottingham Children's Hospital. The role of Principal Clinical Psychologist in General Paediatrics will work with the Paediatric Psychology Lead to develop and deliver the service to children and families under the care of general paediatrics in NUH. The post holder will develop the service to cover the varying needs of children and families through a stepped-care approach. In addition to leading the development of the service into general paediatrics the post holder will provide supervision to Specialist Clinical Psychologists within Paediatric Psychology.

Essential

Training and Qualifications

Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS.
HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
Training in 2 or more distinct evidence based psychological therapies and lifespan/developmental psychology
Completion of further post qualification specialist relevant training, including training in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists

Desirable

Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Post-qualification accreditation in evidence-based psychological approaches e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy, DNA-V/ACT, CFT, mindfulness, etc.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with children with physical health problems and/or with children/families and parents
Experience of working with a wide range of psychological and co-morbid presentations
Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for children and young people's psychological care and treatment, both as an autonomous clinician and within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with other disciplines including medicine and nursing
Experience of providing supervision and consultation to other clinical staff including psychologists.
Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
Experience of multi-agency working (e.g.with schools and other statutory and third sector organisations)

Desirable

Experience of working in acute hospital trusts with children and families with medical/chronic health conditions
Experience of conducting evaluation projects and clinical research within health settings
Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment with children and young people with medical and health conditions
Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
