Mechanical Engineer – New Product Development Overview An industry-leading provider of automated fermentation and cell culture systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support new product development. This role focuses on bioprocess development, cell therapy, stem cell research, GMP manufacturing, and discovery research. The successful candidate will join a cross-functional engineering team and collaborate with Software Development, Product Management, Development Scientists, and Manufacturing to ensure product designs meet commercial and technical requirements. Key Responsibilities Lead hardware design from concept to production release. Apply expertise across multiple engineering disciplines. Develop designs that meet cost, quality, and timeline targets. Conduct and participate in design reviews to ensure specifications are met. Work closely with build teams, design teams, and suppliers to implement and document design changes. Ensure smooth handover to Manufacturing for successful production release. Follow engineering processes to ensure high-quality product design. Engage with customers and Product Management to align system design with market needs. Qualifications & Experience Education: 2:1 degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering with a mechanical focus. Industry Experience: Proven track record in developing and commercializing complex systems or scientific instruments for low-to-medium volume manufacturing (up to 100 units per year). Core Competencies Systems Engineering – Experience in developing complex hardware/software/electronics systems, preferably in life sciences or laboratory applications. Consumable Product Development – Designing components for automated equipment. Robotics & Mechanism Design – Expertise in materials handling and automation. Leadership & Teamwork – Experience leading small technical teams in equipment specification, procurement, build, and commissioning. Product Development Lifecycle – Taking designs from concept to prototype to full-scale production. ISO 13485 knowledge (preferred).
