Do you have extensive experience in a senior engineering role, particularly in leading multi-discipline engineering projects, and can you demonstrate your ability to manage design specifications, calculations, and compliance assessments?

The Opportunity
Our client is a a leading engineering and maintenance provider, supporting customers across the chemical & petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals & biopharma, power & energy, utilities, renewables and food & beverage markets. Due to this, they are looking to expand their team with an experienced Lead Mechanical and Piping Engineer
This role has been deemed inside / outside of IR35
Salary Range- 65-70k Per Anum Dependent on experience
Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development of Mechanical and piping engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects.
  • These projects will range from Concept Design to Execution Designs.
  • You will have the opportunity to deliver projects working in other sectors (Oil & Gas, Energy, Utilities, Nuclear, Chemicals, and Food), small and large projects.
  • You will lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
  • You are responsible for leading and driving quality in engineering designs and projects including the checking and approval of design deliverables.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and other relevant regulations and the appropriate standards and specifications.
  • You are responsible to manage and complete the mechanical and piping design within the defined scope and to time and budget. This includes change control and consistency of the design with the other disciplines.
  • You will participate in internal and external design reviews and you are responsible for the design acceptance by the client.
  • Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within the mechanical engineering team.
    You will have the following qualifications and skills
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification, preferably at Degree level (BEng or MEng).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Lead/Senior/Principal Engineer role.
  • Experience in multi-discipline engineering projects, demonstrating the ability to work across different engineering domains.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IMechE or equivalent (preferred).
  • Attention to Detail: A ‘one time right’ mentality, ensuring the quality of work is high from the start.
  • Able to structure and prioritise tasks efficiently, accounting for dependencies within the mechanical discipline and across other disciplines (Civil, Structural, EC&I, Process).
  • Familiarity with key mechanical design software packages (AutoCAD, Plant3D, E3D, Caesar II).
  • Strong knowledge of general engineering standards and specifications (Essential).
  • Familiarity with IGEM standards and specifications (Preferred).
  • Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, particularly in design implementation.
  • Proficiency in mechanical specifications, basis of design, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, design risk assessments, and compliance assessments.
  • Experience with ASME and BS EN standards related to piping design.
  • Knowledge of Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations (PESR).
  • Strong leadership skills to guide and motivate teams to meet targets.
  • Ability to lead design reviews and present design packages to clients effectively.
  • Ability to plan and organise team activities, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
  • Result-oriented approach with a focus on client satisfaction, ensuring designs are accepted and high-quality standards are met.
  • Ability to manage change control processes and effectively communicate the impacts of changes to clients in terms of budget and timelines.

    Ability to meet UK security clearance requirements (Preferred).
