We have an excellent opportunity within the Trust fora Consultant Psychiatrist based within the Old Age Liaison MentalHealth Service. The post holder will principally provide leadershipand senior medical input to the Old Age Liaison Service based inthe Department of Psychological Medicine within Hull RoyalInfirmary. This is an exciting prospect, and you will need to beflexible, visionary and have the interpersonal skills to engagewith patients and carers and develop professional workingrelationships with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.Applicants should have full registration with the GMC, possess theMRCPsych UK or have an equivalent post-graduate qualification. Theymust have full registration with the GMC. Applicants must beincluded on the GMC's Specialist Register or Specialty Traineeswithin 6 months of completing their CCT within Older AgePsychiatry. The role will attract at least 2.5 SPAs as standard fora full-time post. We would be flexible in looking at enhancementsto support other activities that support the wider ambitions of theTrust. There is an excellent peer support group and opportunitiesto be a clinical supervisor. Relocation package available. Mainduties of the job In fulfilling the clinical duties of the post,the Consultant will be expected to undertake the following: - Toprovide consultant psychiatrist input to the Old Age LiaisonService. - To act as RC for patients over the Age of 65 detained tothe Acute Hospital under the mental health act (small numbers). -To provide cross cover with consultant colleagues as required andas part of a reciprocal arrangement. - To offer specialist advice,consultation and training to Primary Care, Secondary Mental HealthCare and Acute Teaching Hospitals. - To liaise with colleagues inorder to provide patient centred care, effective joint working andrisk management. - To be actively involved in departmental and teamgovernance, including audit. - To participate in peer appraisal,CPD, appraisal and job planning. - To provide supervision andtraining to junior medical staff. - To participate actively inundergraduate teaching. - Participation on the Old Age and LDconsultant on call rota. The Rota is a 1:7 joint LD and Old agepsychiatry rota. - To contribute to postgraduate teaching andsupervision of junior doctors. The appointee will be encouraged toparticipate in undergraduate teaching of HYMS students. - Toparticipate in continuing professional development according toRoyal College of Psychiatrists guidelines. - To complete allrelevant clinical administration associated with this post. Job responsibilities As a consultantworking in the Old Age Liaison Team, you will have responsibilityfor the provision of safe and effective care and treatment which isevidence-based. You will share the vision of integrated andmulti-disciplinary working and actively engage in the developmentof the service through research and support. The post holder wouldbe expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willingto undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will beexpected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures. Theability to commute within the Trust's geographical area with accessto the appropriate means of transport is essential. PersonSpecification - Fully registered with the GMC with a licence topractise at the time of appointment. - Included on the GMCSpecialist Register OR within six months. - Approved clinicianstatus OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment (the Trustwill appoint a section 12(2) to provide this role in the sectorduring the transition). - Approved under S12 OR able to achievewithin 3 months of appointment. - In good standing with GMC withrespect to warning and conditions on practice. Qualifications -MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. - Additional clinicalqualifications. Clinical skills, knowledge and experience -Excellent knowledge in specialty. - Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills in English. - Able to manage clinicalcomplexity and uncertainty. - Makes decisions based on evidence andexperience including the contribution of others. - Able to meetduties under MHA and MCA. - Wide range of specialist andsub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparableservice. Academic skills and lifelong learning - Able to deliverundergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training. - Ability towork in and lead a team. - Demonstrate commitment to sharedleadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement. -Participated in continuous professional development. - Participatedin research or service evaluation. - Able to plan and deliverundergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant tothis post. - Experienced in clinical research and/or serviceevaluation. - Evidence of achievement in education, research, auditand service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations andpublications. - Has led clinical audits leading to service changeor improved outcomes to patients. Other - Holds and will use avalid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposedalternative.
