Consultant Psychiatrist Acute Inpatient in EarlyIntervention This consultant post was created 5 years ago afterservice changes including the expansion of early interventionservices in the community. It has a focus on treatment ofinpatients under the community early intervention in psychosis team(EQUIP), both males and females presenting with first episode ofpsychosis. Male patients are admitted to Ruth Seifert Ward, femaleto Gardner ward. Ruth Seifert ward is a 16-bedded acute admissionward specialising in the treatment, care and support of men in Cityand Hackney who need a period of hospital admission. Main duties ofthe job The postholder is responsible for the care and managementof all the patients admitted under the Early Intervention team. Theusual caseload is approximately 10-15 beds needed for earlyintervention patients (7-10 males and 3-5 females) and 2-4 beds forout-of-area patients. The main base of the postholder is thereforeRuth Seifert Ward. The role includes providing the RC cover,focusing on consultant level assessment of any new admissions withestablished or suspected first episode of psychosis, or who are outof their catchment area, actively supporting an effective interfacebetween the ward, HTT and EQUIP to facilitate safe early dischargesfrom the inpatient unit, actively engaging with the relevantcommunity teams, providing clinical leadership for the MDT on theward, leading ward and management rounds and undertaking relevantreviews of inpatients, supporting the bed management processes andmaintaining high quality care for the patients on the ward. Thisrelatively new arrangement is an exciting opportunity to develop aninnovative and forward thinking model of care for patientspresenting with the first onset of psychotic illness and what theyneed when they require inpatient treatment. Person SpecificationEducation - Fully registered with the GMC with a licence topractise at the time of appointment - Medical degree, MBBS orequivalent - Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act) and eligibleto be temporarily (whilst acting-up) on the register of ApprovedClinicians (MHA, 2007). - Qualification or higher degree in medicaleducation, clinical research or management. Skills - Ability towork as part of a multi-disciplinary team - Excellent clinicalskills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medicalknowledge - Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty -Ability and commitment to work with service users in servicedevelopment and delivery - Good written and oral communicationskills - Ability to manage time effectively - Ability to contributeto service planning, development, and management - Formalleadership/management training Knowledge - Excellent knowledge ofoperation of acute adult mental health service. - An understandingof relevant Government guidelines, targets and legislation ClinicalExperience - Excellent experience of operation of acute adultmental health service - Assessment and treatment of a wide range ofmental health and psychological disorders with evidence-basedinterventions - Wide range of specialist and sub-specialistexperience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service -including good experience of work in acute mental health services,and/or experience of working in Early Intervention in Psychosisservice - Experience of contributing and/or leading on serviceplanning, development and management Teaching - Ability to deliverteaching to graduates and undergraduates in medical and non-medicaldisciplines - Excellent presentation skills - Formal training inteaching methods Research - Has actively participated in clinicalaudit and quality improvement initiatives - Research interest -Research or audit published in peer-reviewed journals Other - Anunderstanding and experience of working with service users from asocially deprived, multi-ethnic area - Adequate health to fulfilthe responsibilities of the post - Able to travel between sites -Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence ofproposed alternative Disclosure and Barring Service Check This postis subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ExceptionsOrder) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission forDisclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service(formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminalconvictions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
