As a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist within the LeighMoss Community Health Team for Older Adults, you will be leading amultidisciplinary team providing high-quality mental health carefor service users under part of the North Liverpool caseload. Theteam has recently moved base from Mossley Hill Hospital in SouthLiverpool to the new facility at Leigh Moss Hospital in Knotty Ash,a stone's throw away from Alder Hey Children's Hospital. You willbe managing patients with both functional and organic presentationsin the community and there is an experienced Consultant body basedat Leigh Moss Hospital to provide support. There is a new inpatientfacility at Leigh Moss Hospital (Fern ward) where service userswith dementia requiring inpatient care can be admitted to. Mainduties of the job You will be responsible for the assessment,formulation, diagnosis, and ongoing management of service usersreferred into the Older Adults CMHT based at Leigh Moss Hospital.In addition, you will provide supervision to the multidisciplinaryteam as well as to any trainee doctors placed within the team. Youwill be expected to liaise with colleagues in other medicalspecialities such as Geriatrics, Movement Disorders, Neurology, andNeuroradiology where required in order to provide coordinated MDTworking for service users. You will be expected to participate inthe Trust-wide teaching programme which is held on Tuesday morningsand will have dedicated SPA time in order to engage with personalprofessional development activities, audit, and will also beencouraged to take up further management roles as the opportunitiesarise. We're currently delivering aprogramme of organisational and service transformation tosignificantly improve the quality of the services we provide andsafely reduce cost as we do so. Job responsibilities There are twoMDTs covering the North of Liverpool. Each of these MDTs receivesreferrals from 12 GP surgeries in the local area. The post holderwill be leading one of these MDTs. The annual number of referralsinto the post holder's MDT was 403 last year. In the 2020-2021year, the annual number of referrals was 304. In 2019-2020 thisnumber was 194. The over 65-year-old population in Liverpool as awhole is 73,800 (correct as of 2020 ONS Population Estimate) whichaccounts for 14.7% of the whole population of Liverpool (500,500).The catchment area in the North of Liverpool which the postholder's MDT covers has a total over 65-year-old population of12,750. The current caseload for the post holder's MDT is 326. Thetotal annual number of referrals to Leigh Moss Hospital CommunityOlder Adult Services has remained stable over a period of at least8 years, ranging from a minimum of 1501 in 2020 up to a maximum of1764 in 2021 and all years going back to 2014 otherwise having atotal number of approximately 1650. The post holder will be theResponsible Clinician for patients in their caseload within theOlder Adults Community Mental Health Team. There are allocated GPsurgeries for each caseload within the service and these areallocated to ensure equity in terms of number of referrals. In linewith New Ways of Working, the post holder will provide aconsultative, supervisory, and supportive role to themultidisciplinary team's work. They will take an active part in theclinical work of the team and a lead role in the development of theservice. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership tothe Team whose role is to provide assessment, management, andsupport to people who may need contact with Older Adults MentalHealth services. Practitioners within the team will support accessto services in a timely manner, as well as ensure arrangements arein place to enhance smooth pathways between primary care andsecondary services. The post holder will be enabled to work in aconsultative manner, being accessible to team members, GP andprimary care staff, patients, and carers, for the provision ofexpert advice and interventions in a timely manner. The post holderwill operate within multi-disciplinary integrated and co-locatedteams, which include Health staff and Social services staff. Thepost holder will be expected to be part of the allocation procedurewithin the team and be responsive and flexible to the needs of theteam. Person Specification Registration - Full registration withGeneral Medical Council - Inclusion on or eligible for inclusion onthe Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within 6months of CCST/CCT or equivalent in Old Age Psychiatry at the dateof interview - Section 12 (2) Approval + Approved Clinician Statusor demonstrated ability to gain approval - In good standing withGMC with respect to warning and conditions on practiceQualifications & Training - MbChb, MBBS or equivalent -Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent, 3years of higher professional training in Old Age Psychiatry -Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinicalresearch, or management - Additional Qualifications Transport -Holds valid UK driving licence and will use own car forwork-related travel OR provides evidence of proposed alternativeClinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience - Excellent clinicalknowledge in specialty - Excellent clinical skills usingbio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge - Able tomanage clinical complexity and uncertainty - Makes decisions basedon evidence and experience including the contribution of others -Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA - Experience in workingpreviously in similar roles at a relevant level. - Training orworked as a DoLs assessor - Experience in management and servicedevelopment Knowledge and use of IT systems Academic Skills &Lifelong Learning - Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduateteaching and training - Participated in continuous professionaldevelopment - Participated in research or service evaluation. -Able to use and appraise clinical evidence. - Has activelyparticipated in clinical audit. - Able to plan and deliver teachingand training relevant to this post - Reflected on the purpose ofCPD undertaken - Experienced in clinical research and / or serviceevaluation - Has led clinical audits leading to service changeDisclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to theRehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as suchit will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made tothe Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to checkfor any previous criminal convictions. £105,504 to £139,882 a yearper annum plus 10% R&R and on-call supplement#J-18808-Ljbffr
