Overview
The Vice President, US Field Medical Affairs is responsible for developing and leading the US Field Medical Affairs organization at Iovance. The primary responsibilities of this person are to build the infrastructure of the company’s first field organization in the US and subsequently hire and manage a team of high performing MSLs. The Vice President, Medical Affairs is also responsible for representing the Field Medical team, both internally and externally to support product launches and ongoing pipeline development.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Leverage professional experience and network to hire and retain best-in-class MSL team
Implement field strategy and priorities in alignment with overall clinical development and launch plans
Oversee the development of the MSL onboarding and training curriculum and materials
Collaborate with other functions on decisions regarding the technology and analytics systems used in the field
Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide reports of MSL activities to senior leadership
Provide input into the creation of Key Opinion Leader target lists, MSL field source sizing, and territory maps
Provide leadership and mentoring to retain and develop top talent
Evaluate, approve and direct all MSL activities, including research activities, educational activities, and interactions with healthcare providers and other relevant stakeholders
Ensure internal stakeholders are knowledgeable of key opinion leader views and opinions as it pertains to Iovance products and relevant disease states
Proactively coordinate field need for medical/scientific knowledge required for management and support of Iovance pipeline, especially in providing support of clinical trial activities
Support the creation of clinical slide decks and other MSL resources
Must adhere to Iovance Biotherapeutics’ core values, policies, procedures, and business ethics.
Travel
Extensive travel is required as part of this position (50%)
Required Education, Skills, and Knowledge
15+ years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs, with experience working with cross-functional in-house and field-based teams
Oncology-specific experience required
Prior MSL leadership experience required
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
Strong organizational skills and business planning, including development of a budget and adherence to targets
Creative problem-solving skills
Manage and adhere to Iovance policies, ensuring compliance with corporate rules and government regulations
Ability to interact and communicate openly and effectively with Senior Management, external opinion leaders and development team members
Experience conducting formal presentations to Senior Management and external opinion leaders
Strong analytical skills, especially with regard to understanding and interpreting scientific and clinical research and literature are essential
Demonstrated self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills
Adept, nimble, energetic and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment
Capable of taking a hands-on approach and willing to “roll up one’s sleeves.”
Preferred Education, Skills, and Knowledge
Advanced Clinical/Science degree or professional credentials preferred (MD/DO, PhD, PharmD, PA)

Physical Demands and Activities Required
Must be able to remain in a stationary position standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
