Independent Technical Assessor / Technical Expert – Radiotherapy

Location:Remote with UK travel


About the Role


UKAS is seeking experienced professionals inRadiotherapy Physicsto act asIndependent Technical Assessors or Technical Experts. This role involves evaluating organisations seeking accreditation, ensuring compliance withBS 70000 / ISO 15189standards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assessment of Treatment Plans:Calculation and evaluation of external beam radiotherapy treatment plans.
  • Equipment Functionality & Quality Control:Verification of radiotherapy equipment performance, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Regulatory Compliance:Ensuring compliance withIR(ME)R 2000andIRR99regulations.
  • Quality Assurance:Assessing quality management systems in medical physics and radiotherapy settings.
  • Accreditation Audits:Conducting technical assessments against UKAS standards, includingISO 17025 / ISO 15189.


Essential Qualifications & Experience:


  • Degree in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum5 years' experiencein Radiotherapy Physics.
  • Expertise inexternal beam radiotherapyfor various cancers, including breast, prostate, lung, and head & neck.
  • Experience inCT imaging (Siemens Somatom Go Open Pro or similar)for treatment planning.
  • Broad knowledge of ionising radiation physicsand clinical radiotherapy procedures.
  • Hands-on experience incommissioning and quality controlof radiotherapy equipment, including:
  • Linear accelerators
  • CT simulators
  • Radiation dosimetry equipment
  • Treatment planning systems
  • Strong understanding ofrisk managementrelated to equipment failure and staff errors.


Desirable Skills & Experience:


  • Knowledge ofcalibration and measurement uncertainty.
  • Experience with additional accreditation standards (ISO 17025, ISO 15189).
  • Prior involvement in presenting technical papers at scientific conferences.


Professional Registration:


Essential:

  • Membership with a recognised professional body (e.g.Science Council (CSci), Engineering Council (CEng), IPEM).


Desirable:

  • Registration with a statutory or voluntary healthcare science register (e.g.HCPC, RCT).


Training & Support:

UKAS provides full training inassessment methods, including online/classroom sessions and on-site mentoring to ensure competence in accreditation assessments.
