Sports Coach – Pathway into Schools

Smile Education are recruiting on behalf of Shireland Biomedical Academy for Sports Coaches who are interested in transferring their coaching skills into a school setting. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with young people and are considering education as a next step in their career journey.

Previous school experience is not required. Full training and induction will be provided. However, if you already have experience coaching, mentoring or working with youth groups, you are strongly encouraged to apply, as these skills transfer extremely well into school environments.
These roles also provide potential for long-term placements and future development for the right candidates.

What the Role Involves Sports Coaches transitioning into school settings may:
• Support PE lessons and activities
• Lead small group sessions and interventions
• Encourage participation, motivation and teamwork
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement
• Work alongside PE staff to meet lesson objectives
• Support extra-curricular sport and enrichment
• Build confidence and resilience in young people
• Access training and adapt coaching strategies to education settings
This route can serve as valuable experience for those considering future roles such as PE Teaching, Pastoral Support, Behaviour Mentoring or Coaching & Enrichment Lead positions.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from diverse sporting and coaching backgrounds, including:
• Sports coaching
• Activity instruction
• Youth sport and community sport
• Fitness, PT or gym environments
• Outdoor education
• Camp/holiday/activity leadership
• Team leadership or mentoring roles
Successful candidates typically demonstrate:
• Confidence leading groups of young people
• Strong communication and motivation skills

• Enthusiasm and resilience
• Adaptability and willingness to learn
• Alignment with the Trust’s values and culture
Relevant qualifications in sports or coaching are beneficial but not essential.
