Job Title:Specialist Pharmacist, Surgery

Division/Department:Integrated Clinical Services/Pharmacy

Responsible to:Pharmacy lead, Surgery

Accountable to:Chief Pharmacist

Based at:Northwick Park Hospital

Band:8A

Hours:per week

Rates:Negotiable

JOB SUMMARY

  • Manage, provide and develop a safe and effective clinical pharmacy service to the Surgical Directorate wards and clinical areas, in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Evaluate prescribing patterns, drug usage, expenditure forecasting, and provide monthly expenditure reports to the Surgical directorate.
  • Plan, organise, and conduct audits within the pharmacy department and the Surgical directorate.
  • Maintain a high level of pharmaceutical input and support as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal and safe medicines usage.
  • Develop, advise on, and implement procedures, guidelines, and policies locally or nationally within the area of responsibility.
  • Train and appraise trainee pharmacists.
  • Lead training and development of rotational band 6 and 7 pharmacists during Surgery rotations.
  • Serve as a practice tutor and educational facilitator for pharmacists pursuing the JPB postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice.
  • Assist in training, developing, and supervising ward-based Pharmacy technicians and assistants.
  • Work as an independent prescriber or work towards obtaining this qualification, within a defined scope of practice.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary training with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in general pharmacy services including dispensing for discharge, weekends, holidays, late duties, and on-call duties.
