Biogenie Remediation UK, is a specialist remediation and brownfield enabling works contractor, and operator of offsite soil treatment facilities. Now part of the Ortec Group, we have been operating in the UK for more than 30 years.

Profile Description

What You Will Be Doing

As a Senior Waste Assessor, you will play a vital role in assessing and classifying materials for acceptance into our Waste Treatment Facilities and for off-site disposal. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and supporting our customers with expert waste classification and advisory services. You may also be involved in undertaking site visits to collect and test samples, as well as review analytical data to determine waste acceptability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Waste Classification & Assessment – Evaluate contaminated soils, soil-like wastes, and liquids for treatment or disposal.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Ensure all waste assessments align with Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC).
  • Customer Support – Provide technical guidance to customers, helping them correctly classify waste and identify suitable EWC codes.
  • Data Review & Reporting – Analyse chemical test data and provide clear recommendations to customers and internal teams.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with sales managers, technical teams, and site operations to ensure smooth waste acceptance processes.
  • Site Sampling & Testing – You may also be required to attend customer sites to collect and test samples, ensuring timely and accurate data management.

What You Should Bring To The Role

  • You must have previous experience of waste classification in accordance with WM3.
  • A degree in Chemistry (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Previous experience of brownfield remediation/contaminated land industry an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Confident and proactive with the ability to manage your own time effectively.
  • Good organisation skills, able to work under pressure and multitask effectively.
  • Ability to support project teams in decision making through technical input with respect to waste classification and potential disposal routes.
  • A willingness to travel if necessary and therefore, a full UK driving licence is required.
