Your new company
You'll be joining a global biopharmaceutical organisation driving innovation across a number of disease areas. You'll be part of an experienced team, working in a collaborative research environment supporting the discovery and early development of next‑generation therapeutics.

Your new role
This is initially a 12 month contract position, based completely in the company's labs.
As a Senior Scientist working on in-vitro immunology studies, you will provide scientific leadership and hands‑on support to advance discovery and early development programs.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing, planning, and carrying out in vitro studies to support target identification, validation, and translational pharmacology
Providing hands‑on technical expertise in in-vitro immunology models, ensuring appropriate model selection, scientific rigour, and alignment with project needs
Testing and evaluating small molecules and biologics using relevant in-vitro model systems
Supporting the establishment, optimisation, and qualification of in-vitro models, including oversight of CRO‑conducted studies when required
Analysing complex experimental datasets and contributing scientific insight to guide project decision‑making
Collaborating effectively with colleagues across project teams and matrix functions to support discovery objectives
Maintaining high‑quality documentation and contributing to study summaries, reports, and presentations

What you'll need to succeed
A strong candidate will bring deep immunology expertise and a delivery‑focused mindset, as well as:

An MSc / PhD (or equivalent experience) in immunology, biochemistry, biology or a closely related field, with relevant post‑doctoral or industry experience
Extensive hands‑on work with in-vitro immunology models relevant to immune‑mediated inflammatory diseases
Expertise in primary and immortalised cell culture, immune cell separation, co‑culture models, flow cytometry, ELISA/multiplex assays, and other molecular biology techniques, eg Western blot
Proven ability to design robust in vitro experiments and interpret complex datasets
Strong scientific rigour, organisational skills, and ability to contribute within multidisciplinary teams
Experience with 3D in-vitro models, immunofluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry, or basic coding for the analysis of large datasets is an advantage but not essential for this role
All candidates must have the right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship until at least June 2027.

What you'll get in return
The chance to make an impact on the company's immunology drug discovery projects, while working in a friendly and high-performing team as well as getting a generous daily pay rate.

How Many Biotechnology Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Biotech Job?

If you are trying to break into biotechnology or progress your career, it can feel like the list of tools you are expected to know is endless. One job advert asks for PCR, another mentions cell culture, another lists bioinformatics pipelines, automation platforms or GMP systems. LinkedIn makes it worse, with people sharing long skills lists that make you wonder if you are already behind. Here is the reality most biotech employers will not say out loud: they are not hiring you because you know every tool. They are hiring you because you understand biological systems, can work accurately and safely, follow protocols, interpret results and contribute reliably to a team. Tools matter, but only when they support those outcomes. So how many biotechnology tools do you actually need to know to get a job? The answer depends on the role you are targeting, but for most job seekers it is far fewer than you think. This article breaks down what employers really expect, which tools are essential, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look employable rather than overwhelmed.
