Job Title: Senior Estimator

Civils, MEP, or Construction experience

Location:Preference for Buckinghamshire, with flexibility for candidates based in Birmingham or Leeds

Salary:Up to £90,000 per annum (higher for exceptional candidates) plus car, bonus, and healthcare

Our client is a well-established technical engineering and construction company with operations across the UK. They specialise in the delivery of complex design and build projects, particularly within the MEP and general construction (CSA/Build) sectors. The company serves high-profile clients in sectors such as food, pharmaceutical, logistics, and advanced manufacturing.

Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting for aSenior Estimatorto join a dynamic and experienced team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation and submission of tenders, helping to ensure commercially competitive and technically accurate proposals. This position offers career development opportunities and the chance to be involved in significant, large-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Appraise tender documentation and contribute to tender strategy.
  • Prepare material and subcontractor enquiries, selecting suitable suppliers and contractors.
  • Attend project meetings and conduct site visits to assess conditions and identify risks.
  • Contribute to design development, attending design team meetings as necessary.
  • Prepare analytical cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans including preliminaries.
  • Assess and compare subcontractor quotations for best value.
  • Raise and resolve technical queries to ensure accurate costings.
  • Support risk management efforts during the tender process and maintain a risk register.
  • Apply value engineering principles during the design and build phase.
  • Participate in tender interviews and present proposals to senior leadership.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of tender documentation.
  • Manage a smooth handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team.
  • Mentor and oversee trainee estimators where applicable.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Strong background in estimating within MEP, construction, or related industries.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Familiarity with bills of quantities and materials.
  • Proven ability to organise, manage, and document large volumes of information efficiently.
  • High attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Project, and estimation tools such as CostX.
