Senior Director, Global New Business - Scientific Communications Reports to: President COE / EVP Growth Strategy
Job Summary
Grow the new business pipeline across the Scientific Communications (SciComms) practice by making new client connections. This person will contribute to, and champion, client targeting initiatives to generate high quality leads that support continued revenue growth of the OPEN Health business.
Partner with and lead (as appropriate) a team of outbound business development professionals in order to implement the Sci Comms practice new business strategy and achieve pipeline generation targets.
Champion process and process evolution to ensure teams leverage business development tools with optimal impact (e.g. CRM, Sell Decks, BD clinics and weekly outbound meetings & reporting).
Ensure team members are onboarded and regularly trained to maximize effectiveness.
Deliver outbound/selling activities according to the relevant new business strategy, to achieve pipeline generation targets (personal targets as well as those of the broader team).
Maintain a deep understanding of the global pharma industry and ensure the team maintains a high level of knowledge of all relevant OPEN Health services and consistently delivers corporate and service-level narratives aligned with practice strategy.
Contribute to the outbound strategy aligned to practice growth priorities.
Regular review of targets and performance of outbound team against agreed strategy.
Regular assessment of the leads - quality and value - to inform future outbound strategy.
Share and leverage thought leadership initiatives to gain business development leads.
Contribute to OPEN Health event strategy - identification of industry and medical events to drive face-to-face interactions with current clients and prospects.
Define and lead cross selling charter for greater collaboration across the SciComms and Evidence & Access BD Teams.
What you may encounter on an average day:
Liaising with Client Growth and/or other relevant business development focused roles to understand current needs of the COEs, with a view to prioritizing these alongside strategic target companies for the practice.
Monitoring of personal and team achievement vs quarterly KPIs as agreed with your line manager. These will be primarily financial targets, with a secondary focus on meetings and unique contacts.
Mapping target audiences and validating with internal stakeholders prior to outreach.
Contacting and arranging meetings with prospects using a variety of networking methods including LinkedIn, introduction via internal colleagues at OPEN Health, introduction via clients and attendance at congresses.
Meeting with prospects in person at their offices, virtually, or at industry events to discuss their forthcoming needs.
Briefing colleagues on the background to opportunities you generate including client insights and win strategies.
Attending and contributing to internal meetings where new business is an essential component.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
Significant Pharma industry experience: in healthcare environment at a communications (or similar) agency or pharmaceutical company or healthcare consultancy.
Sales success: demonstrated consistent sales success and achievement of targets.
Sales strategy development: capability to develop and implement effective sales focused strategies tailored to identified core client segments.
Leadership effectiveness: ability to collaborate and partner with variety of functions to achieve revenue targets while simultaneously managing own client portfolio.
Communication skills: strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build relationships and influence decision-making.
Industry infrastructure: excellent client networks within the global pharmaceutical industry.
Organization: highly organized and able to prioritize and balance role workload and demand that aligns to the delivery of agreed personal and team targets and plans.
Travel Requirements
Travel is required with 25% international travel.
