Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Manager or Design Manager to join our EMEA Design and Construction team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of world-class data center design projects, ranging from new builds and customer fit-outs to phased expansions and operational upgrades. You will collaborate with external consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions that meet Iron Mountain’s rigorous standards. Your role in our mission

  • Lead the design process for data center projects by managing third-party consultants and ensuring alignment with Iron Mountain’s standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including construction, finance, sales, and operations to validate project scope, budgets, and timelines.
  • Engage with external stakeholders such as developers, consultants, equipment manufacturers, and construction managers to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Support due diligence efforts by assisting in the evaluation of potential data center acquisitions and assessing their feasibility in collaboration with external consultants.
  • Provide oversight and reporting on key design and engineering elements, including budget, schedule, and infrastructure activities, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Support the sales engineering team by assessing design options to help drive business opportunities and customer solutions.
  • Support procurement of long lead, owner-furnished equipment for data center projects.
  • Promote inclusion and diversity within the Design and Construction team.
  • Provide professional assistance as requested in support of global projects.


Valued skills and experience

  • University Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in mission-critical design and/or similar hi-tech, M&E-led industries (e.g., Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Laboratory, Food & Drink manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Energy, etc.).
  • Strong leadership experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role.
  • Versatile background in design consultancy, client engineering, site engineering, or contractor engineering roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of complex electrical, mechanical, life safety, and control systems associated with critical facilities or data centers.
  • Expertise in national and local building codes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong written, presentation, and customer relationship abilities.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with key suppliers, business partners, and internal stakeholders.
