Summary of the role

The University of Exeter department of clinical and biomedical science, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, is renowned for its world leading diabetes and genetics research. We have recently been awarded a substantial grant to gain new insights into the genetics of early-onset type 1 diabetes, and are looking to appoint a motivated and organised research technician full time to support this project.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists within the College of Biomedical and Clinical science, who have expertise in genetics and molecular biology. The key purpose of the post is to facilitate and contribute to the provision of high-quality monogenic diabetes research projects. 

The post-holder will perform routine molecular techniques including DNA and RNA isolation from blood and tissue, DNA sequencing and quantitative real-time PCR. They will also be responsible for shipping and ordering samples and reagents, managing stock and general laboratory administration. The successful candidate may also be expected to design and implement new assays under the direction and supervision of appropriate members of staff.
