We are now launching our own laboratories to continue to accelerate our research programmes. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to be part of the founding team in the role of Principal Scientist. The successful individual will have the opportunity to directly input into the scientific strategy of the company. Giving you the chance to use your expertise, innovation, creative thinking to make the most of the science being developed. Driving work from the bench for both external client programmes and internal R&D. With the additional responsibility for running the laboratories with the support of the leadership team. Who will provide full commercial, regulatory and QMS support.


The purpose of the laboratory is to develop novel biomarker assays to enhance health monitoring, that have the potential for commercialisation and lead to scientific breakthroughs. Plus run ‘omics assays as a service for academic, biotech and biopharmaceutical clients. As part of collaborative research and commercialisation programmes. Using your scientific rigour to design research programmes for execution that will solve complex problems. Added to this will be internal research to drive forward EMLES Bioventures research programmes to support the commercialisation of further programmes.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead the science of the laboratories for the identification and commercialisation of Biomarkers.
  • Develop, validate and run advanced 'Omics assays
  • Directly contribute to the scientific strategy of the company by working with the leadership team.
  • Operate as a key point of contact for clients and internal research team
  • Play a key role in the set-up of new laboratory and office facilities.
  • Oversee the small scientific team to ensure their work is of the right quality, is compliant and delivered on time.
  • Support the scientific team with development & running of assays and troubleshoot where necessary
  • Ensure smooth running of the laboratories; ensure facilities are fully operational, equipment maintained, laboratory supplies purchased and managed, any necessary operational systems are implemented.


Essential Criteria


  • MSc or PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a relevant subject.
  • Experience of managing laboratory operations with the responsibility for compliance and delivery of services.
  • Hands-on expertise in bioanalytical assay development (e.g. ELISA, NGS, qPCR)
  • Experience in proteomic assay design, execution, and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of biomarker discovery and validation for clinical or translational research
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks beyond GCP/GLP (e.g., ISO 15189, CAP, HTA)
  • Experience of establishing new laboratories is an advantage but not essential
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor scientific teams, including performance management
  • Familiarity with LIMS and data management systems for assay tracking and reporting
  • Experience interacting with clients and external partners, including project scoping and delivery
  • Strong project management and prioritisation skills in a fast-paced, startup-like environment


Desirable


  • Track record of publications, patents, or contributions to grant applications
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating supplier contracts, and budget control
