The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for aPathology Research Technicianto join our team based inCambridge.In this role, you'll be responsible for a variety of pathology laboratory activities, including digital slide scanning, tissue sample processing, immunohistochemistry, and quality control of image data, all while ensuring compliance with the Human Tissue Act and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

This part-time permanent position is based at the brand-new Discovery Centre on the Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Along with a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits, including a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.

Please ensure you're comfortable with the working hours before applying:

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday from 8:00/9:00 AM to 4:00/5:00 PM, totalling 32 hours per week.

The Team

You'll be part of the established CPSS Discovery Bioanalysis Science Department, joining a team of 11 experienced associates. Your role will be crucial in supporting the team with various pathology activities, ensuring the continuity of scientific operations.

What We're Looking For

Education:Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or a related field.Experience:Several years of experience in histopathology (including digital pathology) and bioanalytical techniques, especially mass spectrometry. Proven ability to manage tasks, coordinate shift schedules, and optimize lab productivity. Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, including digital slide scanning, tissue sample processing, immunohistochemistry, and mass spectrometry. Proficiency in data entry and management using software such as Excel, with experience handling image metadata and database transfers. Strong adherence to Health and Safety guidelines, with a proactive approach to process improvement and operational efficiency

How You'll Thrive and Make an Impact

Perform tissue sample processing, including embedding and preparing samples for histological analysis, ensuring proper handling and preservation for accurate results. Conduct digital slide scanning and quality control of scanned images, ensuring proper documentation and metadata management for seamless database integration. Oversee the quality control of image metadata, including the ingestion and transfer of image files to relevant databases. Manage and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring it is set up and running efficiently, including changing sample batches and troubleshooting any issues to maintain continuous scientific operations.
