A leading UK-based food manufacturer is seeking a skilled and reliable Shift Engineer to join its engineering team at the Dudley site. The company works with some of the most recognised brands in the food industry, providing high-quality manufacturing solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and fast-paced production environment where engineering plays a vital role in operational success.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Shift Engineer will support factory operations through both planned and reactive maintenance of production machinery, systems, and infrastructure. The role focuses on maintaining equipment performance, reducing downtime, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform fault diagnosis, machine setups, and carry out both reactive and preventative maintenance
Conduct mechanical and electrical modifications when necessary
Suggest and implement improvements to reduce breakdowns and improve repair times
Comply with all relevant health & safety protocols, including risk assessments and lock-off procedures
Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot issues and provide technical guidance
Use the site's maintenance management system (CMMS) for planning and recording tasks
Ensure engineering standards and procedures are consistently followed
Manage stock levels of essential engineering spare parts
Support equipment commissioning and infrastructure upgrades during off-peak seasons
Provide technical support to site managers and contribute to decision-making on engineering matters
What We're Looking For
Time-served engineer with strong mechanical & electrical aptitude
Proficient in reading mechanical and electrical drawings
Familiarity with facilities and building maintenance systems
Knowledge of continuous improvement methods such as TPM and predictive maintenance
Strong planning, organisation, and team mentoring abilities
Comfortable working night shifts and rotating day shifts during seasonal changes
Desirable: Experience with flow wrappers, multi-head weighers, check weighers, L sealers, and similar food production machinery
