Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a passion for engineering excellence and a drive to lead from the front? We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join a high-impact team developing next-generation incineration systems where you will play a key role in shaping the future of advanced thermal technologies.

The Role:

As Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take the reins of the mechanical design function, guiding a small team, maintaining design standards and delivering robust, cost-effective mechanical systems for complex industrial products.

You will be hands-on, involved in every stage of the product lifecycle whilst ensuring design quality, process efficiency, and technical integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop and optimise mechanical systems and components for high-temperature industrial incinerators
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to design engineers
Review and approve designs, ensuring adherence to standards, cost targets and manufacturability
Champion design for manufacture, material optimisation and cost reduction initiatives
Perform mechanical analysis, including FEA and CFD to validate performance and reliability
Streamline design processes and uphold mechanical design best practices
Collaborate with the electrical design team to ensure full system integration
Support manufacturing and installation teams, providing practical and technical input throughout

Requirements:

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Proven experience in mechanical design of industrial machinery or heavy capital equipment
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, machining and fabrication
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, thermodynamics and materials
Proficient in CAD tools and engineering analysis software (FEA/CFD)
Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical mindset
Confident working cross-functionally and communicating clearly with engineers, fabricators and customers
Experience leading or mentoring design teams is highly desirable
