Salary: Up to £23,000 p.a. (depending on experience) Up to 6% STI (bonus)

Job Type:Full-time, Permanent. 35 hour week / 5 days (onsite).

Job Summary/ Purpose:

This is a key technical support role with the primary purpose to provide technician support to the Technical Department, which will support the development of new compounds and processes of the company – in order to provide a technical edge on a sound commercial basis, in line with business objectives and to help secure the future growth of the company.

The Laboratory Technician has responsibility and accountability for support testing of products in all product sector relating to but not limited to new product development, technical service to customers and technical support to manufacturing. The sector encompasses PVC additives and PVC compounds.

Main Responsibilities:

Typical polymeric testing of products in the laboratory to specifications Assisting the compound development team with material development and production support tasks Providing test results reports Assisting with the control & purchasing of laboratory provisions Assisting with the maintenance of the library of test specifications Assisting with the management of service & calibration of test equipment Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks Carry out risk assessments for laboratory activities

Complexity of the job:

To work closely with internal and external customers to ensure that new and existing products are fully tested and meet the identified quality, consistency and reliability criteria. To work closely with sales and customer services to ensure that agreed customer samples are produced and supplied in line with customer expectations. To provide a high-quality technical support service to all customers. To provide a high quality technical support service to manufacturing to help troubleshoot the production issues on all products grades. To ensure that appropriate technical advice is provided to the health, safety, quality and environment manager on all related matters associated with the highest levels of health, safety and the environmental concern. To report regularly, both verbally and through written reports, on the progress of all technical issues to the UK Technical Manager and/or Senior Technologists. To ensure appropriate, accurate and up to date technical data is generated, recorded and presented when necessary. To contribute to the effective investigation and resolution of customer complaints · To work closely, on a daily basis, with all other primary functions, within the business to ensure the smooth continuous running of the site. To liaise directly with the Senior Technologists and UK Technical Manager to ensure that quality standards are maintained and enhanced To ensure that relevant test equipment in the technical department is serviced and calibrated on a regular basis To manage the inventory of consumable items required for the smooth continuous running of the technical laboratory To organise third party testing of products following instruction from the Senior Technologists and UK Technical Manager To maintain a high standard of professionalism, quality, integrity and efficiency within the business and to maintain and enhance the company’s profile in the marketplace To carry out any other reasonable work as required by the Senior Technologists and UK Technical Manager

Education, experience, language & physical requirements:

Formal qualification in Science or Materials/Polymer Technology (‘A’ level equivalent or higher preferred) Self-motivated, a team-player and enthusiastic Must be well organised Must be able to liaise effectively with internal and external customers Good writing skills a pre-requisite, must be computer literate e.g. familiar with Microsoft Office programs A working knowledge of ISO9000 Quality Systems would be advantageous
