The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a dynamic and experiencedLaboratory Managerto lead our on-site scientific support services team inLondon, UK.In this role, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of a multidisciplinary laboratory environment, ensuring the seamless delivery of scientific and materials management services that support cutting-edge R&D activities.

The Team

You’ll lead a small and collaborative team of scientific support professionals who play a critical role in enabling research excellence. Working closely with scientists, lab managers, and external partners, you’ll ensure that laboratory operations run smoothly and efficiently, allowing researchers to focus on their core scientific work.

This role is part of ourLaboratory and Production Servicesdepartment, a key function within Avantor that supports customers in the Life Sciences and pharmaceutical industries through expert service delivery, operational leadership, and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

Education:A degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent industry experience

Experience: 

Substantial experience in laboratory operations within a pharmaceutical, life sciences, or R&D environment Demonstrated leadership experience, including direct line management of small teams Strong working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), health and safety regulations (IOSH standard preferred), and laboratory compliance standards Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships in a customer-facing environment Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and the use of laboratory IT systems Experience in driving continuous improvement and managing change initiatives

How you'll thrive and create an impact

Lead daily laboratory operationsacross scientific support and materials management services, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards Act as the primary on-site contactfor all laboratory-related queries, representing Avantor in a customer-facing environment and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships Manage and develop a team of two, overseeing workload distribution, performance reviews, training, and succession planning to ensure service continuity Drive continuous improvement initiatives, using data analysis and Avantor Business System (ABS) tools to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency Coordinate logistics and documentation, including sample dispatch, procurement, reporting, and audit preparation, ensuring accurate and timely communication with internal and external partners
