Job Objective:

The Laboratory Manager at DJS-AbbVie in Oxford will hold operational responsibility for the laboratory space in Oxford for DJS-AbbVie. They will act as a point of contact for the landlords at the WCFI or future DJS-AbbVie site as well as AbbVie Lab HS&E. They will hold a general responsibility to ensure smooth operations of the laboratory space. This includes but is not limited to devising and implementing strategies for the continuous supply of general use consumables, working with the landlord and AbbVie HS&E to ensure compliance of the laboratory space. Overall responsibility for onboarding new starters both to ensure a high standard of laboratory science and scientific report writing is maintained. General responsibility to ensure all equipment is serviced and operational, as well as working closely with the scientific team to identify and fill capability gaps. The expectation is that the Lab Manager will lead by example and ensure the highest standard of laboratory space to enable rapid and smooth progression of our scientific objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee implementation of all service contracts and relationships with external vendors related to laboratory equipment.
  • Work together with DJS operations team to ensure smooth operations for both DJS laboratory space and any future expanded space requirements.
  • Devise and implement strategy for the maintenance of a continuous supply of general use consumables in current laboratory space and any future new facility.
  • Work with the WCFI/future landlords to ensure up to date risk assessments, compliance and all other documentation is submitted yearly as required.
  • Collaborate with AbbVie HS+E to ensure our laboratory space is maintained at the correct standard.
  • Responsibility to provide training for new starters on practical laboratory best practice and laboratory record keeping.
  • Overall responsibility for maintenance of supplies, key reagents, general usage cell lines and implementation/maintenance of reagent/consumable tracking.
  • Oversee the smooth laboratory operations within DJS included but not limited to receiving and storage of laboratory deliveries, matrix oversite of the laboratory team to retain a clean/well organised laboratory space.
  • Oversite and responsibility for laboratory mycoplasma testing.


Qualifications


Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Life sciences with extensive experience working in life science focused laboratory environment and laboratory operations.
  • Proven experience of devising, implementing and streamlining laboratory operational strategies.
  • Experience of matrix oversite of laboratory scientists in an industry or academic laboratory setting.
  • Proven ability to multitask whilst working with external and internal stakeholders to deliver complex and long-term projects to a set timeline.
  • Highly organised and detail orientated individual with strong interpersonal skills.
