This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior post with broad scope, combining hard and soft facilities management with technical leadership of biomedical engineering teams, supporting vital services that make a real difference to thousands of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deliver estates and technical services strategies aligned to organisational goals.
  • Act as an Authorised/Responsible Person for critical areas (e.g., water safety, medical gases, fire, dialysis water systems).
  • Lead compliance with HTMs, HBNs, NHS Premises Assurance Model, and other regulations.
  • Oversee the Business Continuity Plan and lead on estate-related risk management.

Facilities Management

  • Lead the delivery of all hard and soft FM services (building maintenance, cleaning, waste, utilities, security, etc.).
  • Ensure strong planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responsive repair regimes.
  • Drive environmental sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.

Biomedical Technical Services

  • Manage a national team of Biomedical Technicians servicing specialist renal equipment, dialysis machines, and water treatment systems.
  • Ensure equipment meets MHRA standards and clinical service requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to align technical support with patient care needs.

Finance and Risk

  • Manage departmental budgets, capital planning, and procurement processes.
  • Ensure value for money and contract efficiency.
  • Maintain a robust risk register and lead incident investigations where necessary.
  • People Leadership
  • Lead, support, and develop high-performing facilities and biomedical teams.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a key contact for external inspections (e.g., CQC, HSE) and internal audits.
  • Contribute to capital developments and transformation programmes.

What Our Client is Looking For:

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering, Estates/Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in healthcare estates/facilities leadership.
  • Proven experience with renal technical systems and biomedical teams.
  • Deep understanding of HTMs, HBNs, and NHS estate compliance standards.
  • Budget management and capital project delivery experience.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate and IOSH membership.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in management or leadership.
  • AP/RP status in key areas (e.g., water, ventilation, dialysis).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (IHEEM, IET, etc.).
  • Experience delivering sustainability-focused estate strategies.
  • Track record of driving cultural and operational change.
