Position:Engineering Site Supervisor

Location:Huddersfield

Hours:40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:30

Salary:£33,000 - £36,000


Job Overview


This position combines technical expertise in mechanical trades with supervisory and site management responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be an experienced tradesperson with proven leadership capabilities, responsible for overseeing site operations, managing teams, and ensuring project delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.


Key Responsibilities


Site Management & Supervision


• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of mechanical fitters, welders, pipe fitters, and fabricators • Plan, organize, and schedule work activities to meet project deadlines • Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings • Monitor project progress and report status to Project & Implementation Manager • Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards • Manage site resources including materials, tools, and equipment • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders


Technical Leadership


• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members • Review and approve technical drawings and work procedures • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and fabrication issues • Ensure work quality meets industry standards and specifications • Conduct quality inspections and sign-off on completed work


Mechanical Fitting (Hands-on when required)


• Install, service and repair mechanical equipment within the combustion industry • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications • Align, fit, and assemble component parts using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments • Perform preventive maintenance and service on mechanical systems


Welding Oversight & Execution


• Supervise welding operations including MIG, TIG, and stick welding • Ensure welding procedures and quality standards are followed • Perform coded welding when required (TIG) • Interpret welding symbols and drawings • Conduct weld inspections and quality control


Pipe Fitting Management


• Oversee installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems • Ensure Gas Safe compliance across all gas-related work • Supervise pipe system testing and commissioning • Review piping diagrams and isometric drawings • Manage valve and fitting installations


Fabrication Oversight


• Supervise fabrication activities and quality control • Review fabricated items against specifications • Coordinate fabrication schedules with site requirements • Ensure dimensional accuracy and finish quality


Health, Safety, and Environmental


• Implement and enforce site safety policies and procedures • Conduct risk assessments and method statements • Investigate incidents and near-misses • Ensure PPE compliance across all site personnel • Maintain site safety documentation and records • Coordinate with HSE representatives


Team Management


• Assist with performance reviews and provide feedback • Manage work allocation and resource deployment • Foster positive team culture and communication


Key Performance Indicators


• Project delivery on time and within budget • Site safety performance metrics (zero accidents target) • Team productivity and efficiency measures • Client satisfaction scores • Quality audit results


Preferred Skills and Qualifications


Certifications & Licenses


• Valid driver's license - essential

• Valid trade certification in relevant discipline(s)

• Current welding certifications as required (coded welding preferred)

• Forklift certification (preferred)

• Gas Safe registration (essential for gas-related projects)


Site Safety Requirements


• IOSH Managing Safely as a qualification • First Aid at Work • Slinging and Lifting • Safe Work at Heights • Manual Handling • Mobile Scaffold Tower • Confined Space Awareness • Harness & Lanyard Safety • Asbestos Awareness • Powered Access Licence


Required Qualifications


• Completed apprenticeship in mechanical fitting, welding, pipe fitting, or fabrication • Valid trade certification/license as required by local regulations • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial or commercial settings with at least 3 years in supervisory role • Proven track record of successful project delivery and team management • Proficient in reading technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation • Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills • Excellent leadership and communication skills

Work Environment


• Industrial/manufacturing settings across multiple sites • Exposure to noise, heat, and various weather conditions • Extensive travel to different work sites and client locations • overtime, working away from home regularly • Must follow strict safety protocols and procedures • Office-based planning and administrative work.


Safety Requirements


• Develop and implement site-specific safety plans • Lead safety training and induction programs • Ensure all personnel follow company and industry safety protocols • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections • Maintain accident/incident registers and investigation reports • Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment •


Additional Requirements


• Enhanced DBS check may be required for certain sites • Ability to obtain security clearance if working on sensitive projects • Valid passport for potential international assignments •
