Ready to join a team that’s pioneering the development and commercialization of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) to treat complex calcified cardiovascular disease. Our Shockwave Medical portfolio aims to establish a new standard of care for medical device treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through its differentiated and proprietary local delivery of sonic pressure waves for the treatment of calcified plaque.

Position Overview

The Director Market Access will be responsible for leading reimbursement & HTA submissions across target markets in EMEA. The role spans Evidence, Value and Access domains and will cover a diverse set of challenges and processes across various geographies. This individual will work closely with the Global Market Access team & external consultants, making use of clinical data and economic models, to establish appropriate justifications for reimbursement and coverage. This is expected to include using cost effectiveness models and value dossiers for reimbursement applications and product positioning. As part of this effort, the preparing and updating of national reimbursement roadmaps and HTA submission files for Shockwave products, services, and industry trends will be critical. In addition, ensuring robust health economic data analyses as it relates to the EMEA region will be very important in advancing this novel new therapy. The role will also incorporate communication to and with third party payers, government entities and other market access partners and trade associations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsibility for the reimbursement submissions strategy and execution across multiple/various countries in the region

  • Responsibility for the development of health cost economic analysis tools (spreadsheets and economic models) for Shockwave Medical partners and internal organization utilizing third party modelling consulting expertise as required

  • Managing updates to the core value dossiers across the EMEA region for Shockwave products

  • Foster a close and effective working relationship across all relevant departments and teams, especially sales & marketing, regulatory and clinical/scientific affairs

  • Facilitate Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and Clinical Society conversations as required

  • Create and sustain Advisory Boards and Expert Working Groups to drive market access objectives in countries across Europe

  • Identify opportunities and threats from shifts in policy landscape, health technology assessments or other value assessments across Europe

  • Responsibility for representing Shockwave at national-level trade associations in Europe and highlighting key developments which could impact the market

  • Responsibility for engagement with HTA processes involving Shockwave products and services in Europe and managing submissions & consultation processes, including clinician and patient feedback

  • Responsibility for driving updates to country-level position statements and guidelines to positively include Shockwave products and services

  • Keep up to date on clinical trials, both investigator initiated and external studies, that can be used to improve clinical and health economic value messaging for Shockwave Medical products or categories

  • Prepare and update Market Access presentations for use by Shockwave Medical partners and internal organization

  • Oversee and/or assist in the writing of articles and preparation of materials to be used professionally by Shockwave

  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Director Market Access

This job has supervisory responsibilities for 4 Senior Managers across the EMEA region

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree required. Master’s (MA; MSc; MPH, MBA) in relevant field (Health Economics, Health Policy, Public Health, Business) is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years related medical device industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and market access experience.

  • Experience with HTA submissions and reimbursement applications in larger European markets is required.

  • Sales or marketing experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device company is a plus although not essential.

  • Disease state (cardiovascular) and related economic modelling insight is desired.

  • Strong leadership capabilities

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate across multiple cultures and a breadth of functions and levels

  • Analytical competencies to structure complex issues, synthesize key points, communicate, and present in an easily understandable manner

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills

  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision essential

  • Ability to grow with the organization and willingness to assume additional responsibilities over time

  • Competence and credibility to build relationships of trust with physicians and associated professional staff at clinical centres

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to forge strong working relationships with sales and marketing

  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook

  • Enthusiastic, positive and professional team player

Language Skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and fluently in English, and ideally 1 or 2 other European languages.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Travel

  • It is anticipated that this role will require travel around the EMEA region ~50% of the time, with occasional trans-Atlantic travel in addition to regional travel commitments.
