Job overview Southwark CAMHS NeurodevelopmentalService/ Early Help Team We are seeking a permanent ConsultantChild and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Southwark Child &Adolescent Mental Health Service. The post holder will join anestablished Multidisciplinary Team and support in the leadershipand delivery of effective community CAMH services, in accordancewith national guidance and guidelines, and in collaboration withother members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other relevantservices in the statutory, private, and voluntary sectors. ThisConsultant post offers an opportunity to join Southwark CAMHS andthe CAMHS Clinical Academic Group of South London and Maudsley NHSFoundation Trust, the most comprehensive mental health service forchildren and young people in the country. Main duties of the jobThis post includes direct clinical activity and supportingprofessional activities, during which the post holder willcontribute to service development, clinical governance, and qualityimprovement, in addition to completing continuous professionaldevelopment and pursuing other professional activities. The mainresponsibilities of the post include: - Assessment and managementof children and young people and providing psychiatric input forboth routine and emergency clinical care in the neurodevelopmentalservice and in the Early Help team. - Assuming responsibility forown case list and case management of children and families, inpartnership with the MDT. - Using pharmacological interventions, asappropriate, in partnership with children and their families andnetworks of care. - Supervision of junior medical staff asrequired. Detailed job description and mainresponsibilities Duties of this post holder also include: -Participation in training of medical students, psychiatrictrainees, and multidisciplinary staff. - Attending and chairingclinical meetings as timetabled. - Considering safeguarding issuesfor each case, consulting with other professionals and referringconcerns to the appropriate safeguarding teams as required. -Communicating skilfully, tactfully, and sensitively with children,families, and other professionals. - Maintaining the higheststandards of clinical record keeping and report writing. - Workingas an autonomous professional within professional guidelines andthe policies and procedures of the Trust. - Linking with statutoryand voluntary agencies and professionals as well as other CAMHSTeams. - Maintaining good relationships and clear lines ofcommunication with other professional agencies and departments. -Participation in peer and group supervision meetings. - Adhering toagreed job plan and appraisal procedures set by the Trust. -Maintaining GMC registration and participating in CPD. - Provisionof prospective cross cover for colleagues during periods of leave.Person specification - Fully registered with the GMC with a licenceto practise at the time of appointment. - Evidence for inclusion inthe Specialist Register or within six months of gaining CCT inC&A psychiatry. - Section 12 approved. - Approved Clinicianstatus or able to achieve within three months of appointment.Training and Experience - Experience in Outpatient/Community Childand Adolescent Psychiatry. - Experience of assessing and managingcomplex co-morbidities. - Trained in ADI and/or ADOS. - Experienceof providing consultation to non-CAMHS practitioners. - Specialinterest in neurodevelopmental conditions. Qualifications -MRCPsych or equivalent. - Fellowship of the Royal College ofPsychiatrists. - Qualification or higher degree in medicaleducation, clinical research, or management. Clinical skills -Excellent leadership skills. - Excellent child and adolescentpsychiatric assessment skills. - Good ability to relate tochildren, adolescents, and parents/carers. - Understanding ofsafeguarding.
