Consultant in General Surgery interest in benign biliary

As part of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust's commitment to meeting the Health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for the posts of General Surgeon at Lincoln County Hospital.

The post is a 10 PA basic per week plus additional programmed activities by separate negotiation

The appointees will make up a team of 9 Consultant General Surgeons and other surgical colleagues. The appointees will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide comprehensive general surgical services to Lincoln and Associated Hospitals, population 210,000.

Main duties of the job

Work flexibly to provide a sub-specialty service in General Surgery and support theatre lists, clinics and endoscopy sessions that are vacant while other Consultants are on-call.
Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service.
Take part in 1:8 weekly (week day) Consultant rota for emergency duties and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical staff. To be involved in the education of nursing staff, General Practitioners and other clinical professions. To attend regularly surgical sub-directorate team meetings.
Have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
Take part in team, department, regional and national audits.
Be involved in research where appropriate.
Participate in the management of the surgical service.

Qualifications

Essential
Full GMC registration
High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the speciality
Experience in Emergency General Surgery
Desirable
oExperience in performing lower GI endoscopies
Skills

Essential
Fully accredited for higher Specialist training
Desirable
Willingness to develop new approaches to teaching
Willingness to organise relevant audit activities
Experience

Essential
High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the speciality Ability to teach trainees
Desirable
Familiarity with issues of service, organisation and development. Some knowledge of the utilisation of IT in clinical practice.
