Scientist I: CLD Small Scale Bioreactor SMEAn exciting opportunity is available for a Cell Line Development Scientist to join a growing start-up. With state-of-the-art facilities and a robust pipeline of upcoming projects, this role offers the chance to contribute to innovative research and development.Responsibilities:The purpose of this role is to develop and execute small scale (Ambr15 & 24/96 deep well) fed-batch methods to screen and validate cell lines as part an innovative multidisciplinary team that will develop the next generation of mammalian expression systems & cells lines to enable highly productive pharmaceutical bioprocesses and, ultimately, more cost effective Immunotherapeutics.Author SOPs, training documents & COSHH forms as key deliverables Train team members to a high degree of competence to ensure data integrityDocument research findings clearly in a lab bookCommunicate regularly in group meetings and prepare and deliver presentations to project team and internal stakeholdersAlong with team members, provide routine laboratory maintenance, including participating in equipment upkeep, cleaning rotas and laboratory consumables stock managementShared responsibility for out-of-hours cell culture maintenance.Ensure that laboratory health, safety and quality procedures are followedSupport the preparation of laboratory risk assessments and maintenance of health and safety protocolsMaintain the confidentiality of the project and protocolsKeep abreast of current technologies and relevant scientific literature to help identify opportunity for improvements and reduction of costsMinimum Required QualificationsBSc/MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fieldBSc/MSc with 5+ years of industry experience or PhD with 2+ years’ experienceEssential Experience:Extensive experience of working with small scale bioreactor systems including Ambr15Experience of developing small scall mammalian cell culture fed batch models systems using deep well microplates Experience of screening clonal cell lines for optimal performance in batch, fed-batch and perfusion bioreactor systemsExperience of optimising fed-batch methods for antibody bioproduction Experience of working with bioprocess relevant cell lines including CHO and HEK293Experience of performing analytical methods to characterise cell lines for high antibody titre, qP and CQA such as HPLC/UPLC & LC-MS Application of Design of Experiments (DOE) to rationalise experiment designSkilled in experimental design and troubleshootingExperience of writing SOPs, training documents and risk assessmentExperience of training other team members to a high level of competency Familiarity of mammalian cell line development including generation of GM/GE cell lines, single cell cloning and CRISPR / ORF library screensEvidence of executing a range of molecular and cell biology assays to a high standard including FACS, qRT-PCR, Western Blotting & ELISAAbility to work independently and as part of teamExperience of planning experiments with a given timeframeGood numeracy, computer and communication skillsDesirable Experience:Experience with automation and high-throughput technologies applied to mammalian cell line generation eg. Beacon, 96 deep well plate model systems & Ambr15Familiarity of working with large datasets including transcriptomic / proteomic datasetsExperience of mammalian cell culture and related techniques including passaging, banking, transfection, nucleofection & genotyping Experience of working safely with 3rd generation lentiviral plasmid systems within a CAT2.0 environment Skills and personality:Innovative mindsetAdvanced problem-solving skillEnthusiasm and initiativeDriven to deliver Reliable and responsibleAble to multitask Good time management and organisation skillsExcellent communication skills both written and spokenHappy in a growing and multi-disciplinary team
