You’ll be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team working to scale cutting-edge biotechnologies that align natural and industrial systems.
Your New RoleAs a Bioprocess Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, optimising, and scaling bioprocesses that convert waste streams into valuable materials. This includes upstream fermentation, downstream processing, and media optimisation. You will work closely with experts in engineering, chemistry, and material science to ensure seamless integration of biological processes into scalable, industrial solutions.
Main ResponsibilitiesBiochemical & Process Engineering

Design, implement, and optimise downstream processing operations at lab and kilo scale. Model and design upstream (fermentation) and downstream processing equipment. Operate fermenters from bench scale (~1–10L) to kilo scale (10–500L). Culture and characterise a range of microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, and fungi. Prepare biological samples for sequencing and analyse bioprocess performance. Optimise mediapositions and growth conditions to enhance yield and efficiency. Apply aseptic techniques and model microbial growth and product formation.

Data-Driven Research & InnovationMaintain detailed records using Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs).Apply high-throughput screening and Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies.Conduct statistical analysis and mathematical modelling to evaluate and predict oues.Use systems-thinking to assess biological processes at multiple scales.Collaboration & InnovationWork cross-functionally with R&D, engineering, and sustainability teams.Contribute to the development of scalable, regenerative biotechnologies.Support knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
What You’ll Need to SucceedEducation: Master’s in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, or related field with 5+ years of experience, or PhD with 2+ years.Experience: Proven expertise in microbial culturing, fermentation, and downstream processing.Skills: Proficiency in ELNs, DoE, and quantitative research methods.Attributes: Strong problem-solving, systems-thinking, and collaborative mindset.Values: Passion for sustainability and regenerative innovation.
