NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed term post with part-time hours (29.6 hours per week); the laboratory operates 24/7 covering including 12 hour shifts, day shifts night shifts and weekend shifts.

As the Reception Team Leader, the post holder is responsible for all the pre analytical services provided within specimen reception areas across North Glasgow biochemistry sites. This includes both routine and highly specialised areas, applying their knowledge and experience to take responsibility for the overall management of specimen reception and pre-analytical processes.

The Reception Manager works autonomously and takes responsibility for their own workload, making sure that they delegate work appropriately to the Reception Supervisors. They have responsibility for developing and implementing pre-analytical protocols and standard operating procedures which may influence the practice of other sections and has direct line management for the Supervisors and MLA staff.

IT skills are essential for the post as the Reception Managers has to be able to generate reports for meetings, produce Risk Assessments, complete COSHH, conduct staff appraisals as well as having to produce and manage the MLA rota, ensuring adequate staffing levels each day.

State registration with the HCPC is mandatory for this post along with a BSc Honor’s degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for HCPC registration. It is desirable that you have formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures and evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice. It is essential that you can evidence your continuing professional development and you should have effective written, organizational, verbal and effective keyboard/IT skills.

This is a permanent post for a 0.8WTE contract (currently 29.6hrs but subject to change due to reduced working week). These hours will be worked over a 24/7 shift pattern after completion of a suitable training period.
