Job summary

An exciting opportunity has presented for a self-motivated and committed individual to develop their education, training and development skills. We are looking for two astute Pharmacy Technicians to join the Pharmacy Education, Development and Training team as a Senior Support Pharmacy Technician - Education, Development & Training based at either Heartlands Hospital or Good Hope Hospital.
As well as maintaining core dispensary and ward-based competences, the post holder will support the Specialist Pharmacy Technician - Education, Development & Training with the day-to-day supervision and development of Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians including the development of ward-based competences. They will also play a part in the hands-on training and development of the wider dispensary team.

To help us achieve this, you must be able to demonstrate experience with delivering training and supervising others as well as post-qualification experience in a hospital setting as a registered pharmacy technician. Key Responsibilities

Act as Education Supervisor, liaising with students and partnership organizations to support their development.
Deputize at Pharmacy EDT Technician meetings, providing updates to relevant managers and staff.
Deliver training and development to pharmacy staff, ensuring understanding of medication practices and policies.
Provide guidance to pre-registration pharmacy technicians, helping set training objectives for rotations.
Support the creation of a two-year training plan for pre-registration pharmacy technicians in collaboration with senior staff.
Present pharmacy education services at conferences and career events to promote training and career opportunities.
Communicate service changes and educational updates to staff, ensuring alignment with training goals.
Act as a link to educational providers, verifying assessments and qualifications for Level 2 and Level 3 certifications.
Assist in the development and implementation of training programs to improve technical pharmacy staff skills.
Participate in the creation of Trust-wide SOPs for training and education services.
Ensure all pharmacy records related to education and training are accurately maintained.
Support data collection, reporting, and audits for educational services and training outcomes.
Contribute to continuous service improvement by offering innovative suggestions and supporting staff development initiatives.

Person specification

Qualifications

NVQ3 or BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent plus additional training for checking dispensed prescriptions, supervising a technical area within the pharmacy to degree or equivalent level.
Knowledge of medicines management, including relevant legislation and policies acquired through NVQ3 or BTEC equivalent level qualification plus specialist training and experience to degree or equivalent level.
Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation - West Midland's scheme or equivalent.
Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
Professional Registration with the GPhC.
Additional Education and Training qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience.
Leadership training or willingness to attend.
Experience

Significant post-qualification experience in a hospital setting as a registered pharmacy technician.
Knowledge of the specialist function for area of responsibility.
Experience in delivering training and supervision of others.
Working under pressure, prioritising work as appropriate to achieve deadlines.
Experience of planning workload according to departmental priorities.
Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP), MHRA licensing requirements, COSHH.
Demonstrates responsibility for complying with agreed personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies.
Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for service including quality and audits.
Experience of being a Workplace Training Supervisor for Buttercups courses or equivalent.
Knowledge of the structure of Buttercups Level 2 Dispensing Assistants Course.
Knowledge of Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Course criteria and requirements.
Experience in completing and recording observations of staff in training.
Experience of undertaking staff appraisals.
Experience of developing work processes and associated procedures.
Experience in staff management.
Experience of chairing meetings.
Knowledge of HR policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the Wellbeing resources available within the trust.
