Automation Technician

Basildon, Essex | Permanent, Full-Time | £40,000 – £50,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Automation Technician or Control Systems Engineer ready to take the next step in your career? We're looking for multiple skilled professionals to join a dynamic and growing team designing and assembling bespoke automation systems used around the globe.

This is a hybrid role combining hands-on electrical control system work with software programming — perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working across the full project lifecycle.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing PLC-based electrical control systems

  • Programming PLCs, HMIs, safety systems, and configuring drives and remote I/O

  • Integrating equipment such as vision systems, servos, and conveyors

  • Fault-finding, testing, and commissioning machines in-house and on client sites

  • Collaborating with electricians, panel builders, and wider teams for smooth assembly and deployment

  • Occasional international travel for commissioning (approx. 40%)

?What We're Looking For:

  • Level 3 qualification or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering

  • Strong experience with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley PLCs

  • Confidence in PLC/HMI programming and understanding of SCADA systems

  • Able to troubleshoot electrical control systems and perform onsite commissioning

  • A demonstrable career path and technical progression

  • Willingness to travel internationally as part of project support

Nice to Have (But Not Essential):

  • Background in pharmaceutical, process, or high-spec manufacturing

  • Exposure to systems involving ATEX/explosive environments

  • Familiarity with remote I/O, vision systems, or servo configuration
