Job Title:Associate Scientist - Virology Research
Location:Speke, Liverpool.
Contract:12 months
Pay:£13.20 p/h
Hours:Mon - Fri (37.5 hours)

SRG are currently working with a global pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Liverpool, looking for an Associate Scientist to join their team.

Position Summary:

The Flu Biopharmaceutical Development (Flu-BPD) group is a multi-disciplinary scientific function providing expertise in Virology, Process Development, and Analytical Development. The team is responsible for the development of candidate vaccine virus strains for the seasonal, live attenuated, influenza vaccine (LAIV).

The Virology Research team focuses on developing novel approaches and increased scientific understanding to optimise LAIV strains and understanding the requirements for vaccine effectiveness.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform reverse genetic and characterisation assays to support the Flu-BPD department for research projects and seasonal vaccine strain development activities.
  2. Perform routine testing to support the LAIV optimisation project under the guidance and supervision of a more experienced scientist.
  3. Make detailed observations, analyse data, and interpret results.
  4. Present findings at internal meetings and support the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  5. Ensure activities are aligned with site business objectives and meet the required standard, with respect to documentation, good housekeeping, SHE, time keeping, budgets, and regulatory legislation.
  6. Laboratory maintenance - housekeeping self-inspections and stock control - re-order schedules and communication with key suppliers.
  7. Ensure laboratory documentation of results is accurate, neat, and timely. Assist in the review and approval of laboratory documentation.

Requirements / Qualifications:

To have a minimum of a science degree or equivalent in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular or other science-related field. Masters degree preferred.

Skills and Experience:

Laboratory experience and knowledge is essential in molecular/virological methods. Experience with techniques such as Cloning, PCR, sequencing.
