We are seeking a Research Assistant in Molecular and Cellular Biology to join the newly established Oxford experimental programme of the Ideker Lab at the Centre for Human Genetics. You will contribute to an ambitious research programme developing predictive models of cells using experimental measurements of protein organisation, genetic perturbations and dynamic cellular phenotypes.

Working with Dr Thomas Agbaedeng under the overall direction of Professor Trey Ideker, you will establish and maintain mammalian cell systems and support experimental workflows including endogenous protein tagging, CRISPR-based perturbation, optical pooled screening, live-cell imaging and proteomics. You will also generate engineered cell models, undertake molecular and cell biology techniques, analyse research data and contribute to experimental troubleshooting, publications and presentations.

You will bring a practical laboratory experience and a careful, organised approach to experimental research, working closely with computational and experimental researchers, external collaborators and specialist facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to develop expertise across advanced cell biology, genome engineering, imaging and proteomics while contributing to a highly collaborative and innovative research programme.

It is essential that you hold a degree in biological sciences, biomedical sciences, biochemistry or related discipline. You must have hands-on experience of mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique, with an understanding of cell-culture quality control. Experience in molecular and cell biology, including several of the following: DNA or RNA extraction, PCR or quantitative PCR, molecular cloning, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, or flow cytometry is a must. It is essential that you have knowledge of the principles of CRISPR-Cas genome engineering or gene regulation, including the use of appropriate experimental controls.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 36 months and is funded by UKRI Global Talent Fund.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 23 November 2026 will be considered. Please quote 189380 on all correspondence.
