About Lypo

Lypo is redefining chemical manufacturing, developing programmable small molecule manufacture using waste. This technology leverages the nature and plasticity of microbial metabolism, combined with AI-engineered enzymes, to create sustainable, cost-effective ingredients for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

Lypo is growing rapidly; we are building a multidiscipline team with a culture of cross-pollination and shared learning. We are hiring a Molecular Biologist to implement plasmid assembly, analysis and testing of complex DNA constructs.

The Role

We are seeking a Molecular Biologist to implement high-throughput plasmid assemblies, colony PCR, Minipreps and pathway construction. You will be critical to the team, through building the strains that we need to test our hypotheses and train our models. We value an interdisciplinary mindset; whatever your background, you must be eager to work across traditional boundaries to solve challenges.

Key Responsibilities

1. Plasmid Assembly: Implement high-throughput Plasmid Assemblies. (e.g., QIAgility).

2. Colony PCR: Maintain high-level throughput for processing transformants sample processing across several analytical machines

3. Pathway Construction: Input on plasmid design and pathway construction to maximise construction. .

4. Reporting & Communication: Communicate effectively with fortnightly research updates and regular group meetings.

5. Mentorship: Support the development of others across disciplines, skillsets and levels, with regular participation in skills training and problem sessions.

6. Workspace Management: Maintain a clean and organised environment, this includes the laboratory and online workspaces. Data should be organised, along with regular labbook entries.

Experience & Requirements

Professional Experience: MSc in Biology or Biological Science + 1 year Industry Experience, or BSc in Biology or a Biological Science + 2 years industry experience.

Required Skillset: Golden Gate assembly, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Benchling In Silico Cloning, DNA Sequencing,

Nice-to-Have: Programming and/or chemical analysis would be an advantage. Any experience working outside of science.

Salary & Flexibility

Salary: £31,000 - £36,000 FTE per annum, so £18,600 - £21,600 pro rata. 6 month contract with extension subject to securing funding.
