Curious about how engineering can shape the future of medicine?

Looking for your first industry role where your ideas can genuinely make a difference?

Eager to be hands-on with robotics, real-world R&D, and next-gen biotech tools?

Our client, a forward-thinking and fast-growing biotechnology company, is inviting a curious, driven and technically-minded graduate to step into an exciting entry-level opportunity as a Research Engineer. If you’re eager to apply your academic knowledge to real products used in cutting-edge biomedical innovation, this could be your perfect launchpad.

Why This Role is Great

  • Get hands-on with robotics: Prototype hardware, test new designs, and help develop advanced fluid handling tools that support gene editing and drug discovery.
  • Work across disciplines: Collaborate with both engineers and biologists to explore how technology can better serve modern science.
  • Contribute to real-world R&D: Play a vital role in small-scale product development inspired by real user needs. From improving fluidics to exploring replacements for specialised materials, your work will have tangible impact.
  • Grow with the company: As you gain experience, you’ll have opportunities to support customers and get involved in exciting new product concepts.
  • Join a collaborative environment: Work closely with experts and innovators in a company that values curiosity, initiative and continuous learning.

About You

You're ready to take what you've learned, whether from a recent degree or an academic project, and bring it to life in a practical, fast-moving setting. You'll be supported by a tight-knit team as you build on:

  • A degree in engineering, physics or a related technical field (2:1 or above)
  • A solid understanding of fluid dynamics
  • Experience with research or development, whether through an industrial placement, internship or a challenging final-year project
  • A desire to build and test, with interest in both physical prototyping and software-based problem-solving

You’ll also have the chance to work with:

  • Robotics such as building and programming systems
  • C++ or Python to develop your coding and automation skills
  • Modern R&D techniques through real-life product development and problem-solving

The Offer

  • Salary: £30,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Location: Primarily on-site with some flexibility for remote work

Benefits:

  • Additional leave
  • Company pension
  • Sick pay
  • Casual dress code
  • A collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture

The Hiring Journey

  • First Interview (In Person): 1 hour including a short technical presentation on a past R&D or development project and Facility tour and Q&A
  • Second Interview (Virtual): 30-minute discussion with the CEO and a senior team member

Inclusion & Diversity

We and our client are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all applicants. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and are especially supportive of those who are underrepresented in engineering and biotech. If you're excited by this opportunity but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every wish-list item, we still encourage you to apply. You could be just the person we’re looking for.
