Workshop Manager – Keep the Cogs Turning!

Our client, a well-established engineering firm, is on the hunt for an organised, hands-on leader to take charge of their busy mechanical workshop. About the Company:
Our client specialises in repairing and restoring industrial equipment.They work across a variety of sectors, including:

Water Industry Specialists – Keeping wastewater operations flowing smoothly.
Pharmaceutical & Chemical – Supporting critical manufacturing infrastructure.
Mining & Power Generation – Helping heavy industry stay up and running.
Food, Drink & Agrochemical – Ensuring production lines don’t grind to a halt.Their approach involves retrieving faulty equipment from industrial sites, repairing it in their fully equipped workshop, and reinstalling it in peak condition.

The Role:
As Workshop Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the workshop and its team. Your responsibilities will include:

Team Leadership & Organisation – Managing and supporting a team of machinists, fitters, welders, labourers, drivers, and a storekeeper, ensuring workflow remains efficient.
Operations & Logistics Coordination – Overseeing collections, deliveries, and subcontractor jobs (including galvanising, painting, and machining).
Procurement & Stock Control – Sourcing bearings, gearboxes, steel stock, consumables, and other essential components.
Engineering & Problem-Solving – Designing and sketching repair solutions for frames, filters, rotating assemblies, couplings, platforms, hoppers, and more.
Planning & Estimation – Tracking hours worked on each job, estimating repair times and material costs to support project engineers with accurate quotes.What We’re Looking For:

Extensive experience in workshop management, ideally with a hands-on background in machining, fabrication, or mechanical fitting.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a busy team effectively.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
Experience with procurement, logistics, and liaising with subcontractors.
A methodical and organised approach to planning and estimating work.
