Job Description

Are you an experienced vet looking for a well-established practice, with low staff turn over where you will be working with very experienced and qualified vets? Paying up to £65,000? (DOE, FTE)

  • This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced vet who is wanting to work along side a double certificate holder who runs a referral service
  • You will have a great chance to see a large variety of cases
  • The practice is fully equipped for orthopaedic surgery including multiple sizes of ASIF kit and External skeletal fixation. Full set of surgical power tools including power drills, power saw and TPLO saw
  • We also have other fantastic kit such as Cryosurgery, high Frequency Xray with full bucky table, Esaote MyLab Ultrasound with full cardiac package
  • No OOH or Sundays
  • You will be encouraged to follow you interests with CPD and certificates supported
  • This is ideally a full-time role with 1 set day off per week working 1 in 3 Saturdays (9am to 5pm) as sole charge

    About us:
    Wolverhampton Vets4pets is a stand-alone practice, in a purpose-built building. We have been open for over 10 years and have more than 4,000 active registered clients. The practice is on the west side of Wolverhampton, within 5 minutes' drive of the countryside and the Severn River Valley. We have all the amenities of a city as you would expect, including nightlife, but at the same time there are many peaceful villages within 15 minutes' drive of the practice.

    The practice is owned and run locally by Mark Smith, who has 30 years' experience, mostly working as a referral surgeon in Surgery and diagnostic imaging Mark provides a referral service to local vets4pets in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery and ultrasound, and travels to other practices over a very wide area once a week to perform surgeries, such as TPLO, and BOAS procedures. Mark offers fantastic support and can help you gain more knowledge in a varied case load.

    The practice has 3 full-time consulting rooms, a prep room for anaesthetising patients and caring for inpatients. There is a dedicated X-ray room with a high-powered HF xray machine with full bucky table, and digital xray processor. The ultrasound machine has full abdominal and cardiac packages. We have separate cat and dog wards, and a dedicated isolation unit. There is a full lab machine set up in the prep area for biochemistry and haematology, microscopy, and various snap tests.

    Surgically we have a full orthopaedic kit, allowing for fracture repair of all sizes, with 1.5mm through to 3.5mm full plating kit, external fixators and power drills, saws, and TPLO saw which are used all the time. We also have full instrumentation for soft tissue procedures, ranging from ENT and full abdominal surgery, through thoracic procedures to reconstructive surgeries.

    Upstairs we have a kitchen area for staff to relax in and an office with two tables and two laptops for use of the whole team. There is also a very large practice library of textbooks covering all disciplines.

    You would be part of a four-vet team, with a support team of amazing RVNs, student nurses, animal care assistant receptionists and a practice manager all offering support to ensure you have everything you need to support our local community and their pets.

    The role:
    This position is ideally for an experienced veterinary surgeon who is looking for a practice that will support their develop and help them gain access to a varied case load

    The rota would be 40hrs per week, working four days per week with one set full day off. You would work every 3rd Saturday from 9am to 5pm, this will be sole charge. Your working day would consist of consulting and operating with at least one other vet, and a day of dedicated operating, with support from another vet to learn new skills in surgery and investigative methods.
