We are seeking an ambitious and talented lawyer to join the EMEA Legal Team as Sr. Lead Counsel for the UKI and Nordics region. This senior-level position will be part of the UKI and Nordics Leadership Teams, providing strategic legal and business counsel on a variety of matters for a publicly traded, global medical device company operating in a highly regulated and rapidly growing industry.


You will work closely with commercial and functional teams, offering practical, risk-based advice on commercial, compliance, and competition issues. Collaboration with the wider EMEA Legal Team will be essential to enhance legal efficiency, scalability, and to drive strategic initiatives regionally and globally.


The ideal candidate will have significant international legal experience, preferably within the medical device or broader healthcare sectors. Strong business acumen, sound judgment, and the credibility to influence and negotiate with stakeholders are crucial. A proactive approach to enterprise risk mitigation and cross-functional collaboration will be essential.


This role is based in Birmingham and reports to the Regional General Counsel, EMEA, located in Rotkreuz, Switzerland.


Key Responsibilities


  • Manage legal matters and mitigate risks in the UK, Ireland, and Nordics markets.
  • Provide strategic and operational legal guidance to commercial and cross-functional teams.
  • Assess and mitigate legal, regulatory, and ethical risks.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders on public affairs, corporate communications, marketing, brand protection, and litigation.
  • Collaborate with HR on employment law issues and legal/HR initiatives.
  • Design and deliver risk-based training, focusing on HCP interactions and competition law.
  • Maintain relationships with external counsel.
  • Lead the regional compliance program, working with Global and Regional teams.
  • Develop and implement a regionally tailored, risk-based compliance framework aligned with global policies and local laws.
  • Keep the Regional General Counsel informed on key projects and issues.
  • Lead legal initiatives at the enterprise level to improve efficiency and scalability.


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

In this role, you’ll need:



  • Qualified common law attorney
  • 10+ years of legal experience, ideally in both law firm and in-house settings
  • Experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences sectors, including competition law, data privacy, and compliance
  • Ability to work across multiple geographies and lead or collaborate with diverse teams
  • Strong transactional and drafting skills
  • Business acumen and effective interpersonal skills
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, international environment
  • Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus
