Axion Biosystems UK Manufacturing Ltd is seeking a Senior Production Engineer, reporting to the Operations Director to optimize manufacturing processes, ensure product quality, and support the scale-up of our bioelectronic systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, experience in a production environment, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Job Duties
Process Optimization: Develop and refine manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
Production Support: Troubleshoot technical issues on the production line, ensuring minimal downtime, maintaining on-time delivery to the customer. Work closely with the Operations Team to ensure product performance is optimized.
Communication: Promote healthy, respectful communications with Operations Team relative to product issues.
Quality Assurance: Collaborate with Quality team to implement best practices to meet current regulatory standards (ISO 9000) and other Statutory and Regulatory compliance i.e. RoHS / REACH / CE and Equipment compliance.
New Product Introduction (NPI): Support the transition of R&D prototypes into scalable production.
Equipment & Tooling: Specify, validate, and maintain production equipment and fixtures. Ensure all relevant Test systems and metrology is calibrated to traceable standards.
Documentation: Create and update work instructions, SOPs, and production records.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with R&D, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to drive continuous improvement.
Training: Mentor production staff on new processes and technologies.
Attendance: Demonstrate and model exemplary attendance, safe working practices, and professional behaviour always when exercising elements of the Production Engineering position.
Required Skills & Abilities
5+ years in a manufacturing/production engineering role (medical devices or biotech preferred).
Experience with component-level hardware debugging and failure analysis for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs)
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and datasheets (e.g. EAGLE, PADsviewer)
Familiarity with electronics test equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies
Scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, MATLAB, etc.) to facilitate analysis or data review
Soldering experience and rework ability for assemblies with through-hole and surface-mount components (e.g. QFNs, BGAs, 0402-size passives)
Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or DFM principles.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Management Experience especially in the absence of operations management
Good knowledge of formal risk assessments (e.g. RPN in Process FMEA) using risk-based thinking to help optimize the manufacturing lines and stimulate continuous improvement
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or related field)
5 years + experience
