This position will lead the transformation of project leadership capabilities across the R&D enterprise.  On a systemic level, this role will prepare critical GPL roles (Exec Directors) to be CEO of the project via a bespoke leadership/drug development/executive training and coaching program which will equip these leaders and associated project teams to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and make high-impact R&D investment decisions that accelerate innovation and deliver value to patients. This position will work with the CEO/GLG, RDLT and all levels to ensure the Project Operating Model is continuously improved for simple, rapid, empowered, project-centric decision making at the right level. This role will also lead the leadership development of Project Managers (PMs) and Research Project Leads (RPLs) in R&D and strengthen the GPL/GPM partnership.

Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Develop and run an executive leadership/coaching/"continuous improvement" program to actualize GPL role as "CEO" of the program
Work with senior leaders, TA Co-Leads and partners and beyond R&D to ensure the behaviors and decision making of R&D aligns to the Project Operating Model
Continuously improve the project operating model at all levels to ensure rapid, effective project centric decisions
Support the entire R&D project community (inside and outside R&D) with appropriate change management driving a project-focused culture, incentives/rewards practices, and communications
Accountable for development and stewardship of the Project Operating Model, including education, guidance, implementation and modification (when needed) while also ensuring optimal application of the project axis and team structure
Develop frameworks for R&D Project Management excellence.  Primary focus is R&D Project Management within POE while serving as extended Centre of Excellence on Project Management best practices across R&D 
Oversee the Operation of the PM Academy, curriculum, system, needs analysis etc. to support elevating the craft of Project Management in R&D.  Recommends capability areas for focused training, certification options/requirements and consistency of practice across the organization
Build frameworks and culture to strengthen the GPL/GPM partnership
Build a culture and frameworks to elevate the role of PMs & RPLs within R&D
Serves as point of contact for TA Co-Leads for the establishment or dissolution of Product/Platform Strategy Teams and decision making by the Head of R&D
Enabling a culture of high-performing teams. Lead culture change, promoting shared values and collaboration, supporting the shift from functional-focus to project-focus
Partner with R&D leaders and TA Co-Leads to optimize the interface between the project and the functional axes
Define a strategy for building main skills across Project Excellence; identify targeted R&D project-focused audiences and associated learning goals; develop a planned schedule of offerings to meet our needs
Develop and run a training and "continuous improvement" program for all PST members to drive standardization of best practices

Qualifications & Experience

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s in science, operations, or business-related field
12+ years in R&D operations, vendor management or business support
Experience with research vendors and lab operations
Strong coordination skills with enabling functions
Experience working in cross-functional R&D teams
