Job Title: Senior Design Engineer – Waste Treatment

Location: Finham, Coventry
Contract Type: Permanent

Role Objective:

As a Senior Design Engineer specializing in waste treatment, you will provide technical design solutions for water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. This role encompasses all stages of project delivery, from feasibility studies to detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover. You will be responsible for creating mechanical designs and specifications while considering health and safety, environmental impacts, materials handling, and adherence to relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify the root cause of business problems.
Agree on design milestones with the Project Manager.
Support Project Managers by defining contractual outputs for successful project delivery.
Conduct feasibility evaluations within project timescales and budgets.
Develop innovative and efficient design solutions.
Proactively manage risks, maintaining risk registers throughout the design process.
Ensure health and safety considerations are integrated into the lifecycle of the design.
Approve designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and standards.
Coach and develop team members to build capability within the design team.
Experience Required:

Extensive experience in designing and specifying for commercial negotiations.
Proven track record of innovation in water or similar industries (e.g., Petrochem, Pharmaceutical, Food, Aerospace, Power).
Experience in implementing CDM regulations in the design process.
Strong experience in working closely with supply chains to ensure project delivery meets H&S, quality, and output requirements.
Demonstrated ability to influence a variety of stakeholders to achieve design objectives.
Capabilities:

Strong communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
Ability to challenge designs to ensure compliance with specifications.
Commercial awareness, including managing budgets, timelines, and suppliers.
Proactive problem solver with strong decision-making skills.
Ability to delegate effectively and build team capability.
Strong personal discipline in following design standards and H&S regulations.
Innovative and forward-thinking approach, constantly seeking improvements.
Ability to communicate complex messages effectively, both positive and challenging.
A collaborative team member who actively contributes to discussions and initiatives.
Qualifications:

Chartered Engineer (or equivalent experience).
Full UK driving license.
Desirable: Full membership or near-membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, I Mech E).
