Senior Clinical Pharmacist- Antimicrobials

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committedpharmacistto help improve antimicrobial stewardship practice across the Trust.

Working as part of not only the pharmacy team but with the Trust's Infection Prevention and Control team, you will be integral in helping the Trust reduce the rise in antimicrobial resistance, support the proper and appropriate use of antimicrobials and improving the culture around the treatment and management of infections across the Trust.

This is an exciting role that will also allow the post holder to network and represent the Trust in relation to the management of antimicrobials across the Integrated Care System.

The post holder will require a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent specialist knowledge, acquired through a broad spectrum of clinical pharmacy training and experience, and will be a part of a pharmacist On-Call service.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be working closely with the Infection Prevention and Control and Physical Health Matron to identify service gaps and areas for improvement in relation to antimicrobial stewardship.
  • You will be responsible for the governance and management of the use of antimicrobials across the Trust.
  • You will also be involved in working with the other lead pharmacists in undertaking and developing audits and projects related to the use of antimicrobials to evaluate and improve their use alongside pharmacy and Trust priorities and objectives.

Job responsibilities

  • Takes a lead role in managing antimicrobial stewardship across the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust.
  • Works closely with the Infection Prevention and Control team to promote prudent use of antimicrobial agents in line with Trust Antimicrobial Stewardship Policy.
  • Be responsible for policy implementation and staff development including training in relation to Antimicrobial Stewardship and other medicines management topics in the Trust.
  • Be an active member of the Integrated Care Board (ICB) Antimicrobial Medicines Optimisation Group Meetings to promote the safe, effective and economic use of medicines throughout the Trust and the wider system.
  • Plans and co-ordinates projects and audits to review medicines use (particularly antibiotics) and prescribing polices in the Trust.

Person SpecificationQualification

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council, with at least 3 year's post graduate experience
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent specialist knowledge, acquired through a broad spectrum of clinical pharmacy training and experience
  • Member of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy
  • Non- Medical Prescribing qualification or working towards this qualification

Experience

  • 3 years clinical experience within hospital pharmacy services.
  • Knowledge of the therapeutics of common disease states and developments in antimicrobial usage.
  • Specialist clinical knowledge of anti-infective preparations.
  • Through knowledge of national drivers in areas of antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship.
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of Clinical Governance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings
  • Record of achieving results against set targets.
  • Previous experience of providing antimicrobial related advice .
  • Experience in delivering training.
  • Experience of budget setting and management of drugs budgets.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of analytical skills and problem solving ability, to ensure that the post holder is able to provide advice on complex issues relating to medicine management and Trust policies.
  • Knowledge and experience of Primary and Secondary Care working
  • Confident and assertive when dealing with other professionals
  • High level of Interpersonal skills, to ensure that the post holder is able to effectively exchange highly complex and sensitive information with patients and relatives, prescribers and senior managers
  • IT skills - word-processing, PowerPoint, Excel, statistical package and internet use, so that the post holder can communicate effectively with other Health care professionals and for training purposes.
  • Able to devise, plan and manage a complex work programme
  • Up to date knowledge of prescribing issues in Mental Health
  • Relevant knowledge of pharmaceutical standards of practice
