Inside IR35

Duration:12 months

Make a more meaningful impact to patients’ lives around the globe.

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn’t mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.

As a Research Scientist in the Compound Management department, you will be responsible for the storage and timely provision of chemical compounds to AstraZeneca’s drug discovery projects.

Highly automated systems will be employed to supply small molecules and larger biological modalities to AstraZeneca scientists and partner organisations.

You will be a member of the Discovery Sciences organisation, operating within a first-class scientific environment to support drug discovery across each of AstraZeneca’s Therapeutic Areas.

Working collaboratively within a Compound Management team, you will deliver to agreed service levels with a strong customer focus, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our industry-leading capability.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a team to deliver research compounds in the requested format and to agreed timelines.
  • Managing customer orders using specialized informatics systems and responding to queries via email.
  • Interacting with Compound Management globally and collaborators to process global orders.
  • Performing experiments to investigate process improvements and new technologies.
  • Maintaining awareness of advances in Compound Management.
  • Ensuring your own work and that of your colleagues is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A level 6 or above, higher education qualification in a scientific/engineering area or equivalent experience (e.g., Bachelor's degrees, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, Graduate diplomas, BTEC Advanced Professional diplomas, certificates and awards, degree apprenticeship)
  • Passion for working with high throughput liquid handling workflows on fully integrated automation platforms
  • Relevant lab-based experience in a scientific or engineering setting
  • Experience working with high throughput integrated automation platforms

Proven ability with experience in a similar role, ideally within pharmaceuticals, biotech or diagnostics industry, but candidates with a relevant academic background would be considered.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

AstraZeneca embraces diversity and equality of opportunity. We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team representing all backgrounds, with as wide a range of perspectives as possible, and harnessing industry-leading skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. We welcome and consider applications to join our team from all qualified candidates, regardless of their characteristics.
