Research Technician Cell Culture and Molecular Biology

We seek a research technician to join our European Research Council funded team exploring the mechanisms of spectral tuning and G-protein selectivity in animal opsins, and applying that knowledge to engineer new optogenetic tools.

Applicants must be confident in general molecular biology and cell culture techniques, they should also be comfortable with measuring and manipulating light as a biological stimulus.

The project will require research with laboratory rodents and applicants should have completed relevant training and hold a Home Office Personal Licence.

The successful applicant will spend most of their time on project specific research tasks but will also be asked to contribute to the general management of the lab. Familiarity with general health and safety processes and with legislation regarding genetically modified organisms would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and ambitious research group in Manchester, working in close collaboration with our ERC Synergy award partners in Switzerland (Gebhard Schertler) and Germany (Peter Hegemann).
