The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM) is at the forefront of tackling global health challenges through cutting-edge research and education. The Research Associate (Statistician) will join the Department of Inflammation Biology within the School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences (SIMS), working closely with colleagues across research centres within SIMS, the King's Clinical Trials Unit and colleagues in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).

This role focuses on immune-mediated inflammatory conditions and involves collaborating with leading research groups, including the King's Centre for Lung Health, Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, Centre for Nephrology, Urology & Transplantation, and St John's Institute of Dermatology. Based across the Guy's and Denmark Hill campuses, the postholder will engage with diverse datasets, apply innovative trial designs, and contribute to translational research bridging laboratory science and patient care. About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate (Statistician) to join dynamic, multidisciplinary team that includes statisticians, clinicians, epidemiologists, research nurses, and clinical trial managers, supporting clinical trials activity across the School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences.

The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative research skills, a passion for advancing healthcare, and excellent communication and teamwork abilities. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge clinical research, primarily focused on immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriasis.

The postholder will work closely with clinical researchers to plan, monitor, analyse, and report on clinical trials, while also providing expert statistical advice and support for observational studies using routinely collected healthcare data and digital health technologies. There is scope to develop and lead research projects in areas aligned with the postholder's interests. Opportunities to engage in teaching activities may also be available, depending on expertise and preference.

This position offers the chance to contribute to impactful research and shape advancements in healthcare while developing your academic career within a supportive and collaborative environment. The postholder will be responsible to Prof Sam Norton (Professor of Medical Statistics & Applied Health Research) and will generally work on clinical trials on which he is the senior statistician. There will be opportunities to engage with the large number of statisticians linked to King's CTU across both FoLSM and the IoPPN. Expectation is that you likely spend 3 or 4 days in the office splitting time across Denmark Hill and Guy's Campuses.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria
MSc in medical statistics or a related discipline with substantial statistical content
Expertise in medical statistics and knowledge of clinical trial design
Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., R, Python, or Stata).
Experience of dealing with common methodological challenges in medical research (e.g., missing data)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Desirable criteria
PhD (or nearing completion) in a related field
Experience of working as a medical statistician on one or more randomised controlled trials
Experience of undertaking research in populations with immune mediated inflammatory diseases
Experience of presenting findings at local, national and/or international meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals
