Job Description Summary
As a Procurement Manager at BD, one of the world's leading global medical technology companies, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the company's mission of transforming the future of health. Within the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) team, you'll lead procurement strategies that ensure materials and services are sourced cost-effectively and efficiently, while managing supplier relationships, mitigating risk, and driving operational excellence. As a senior member of the Operations Team, your efforts will directly impact the company's growth, competitiveness, and ability to consistently deliver on customer expectations. This role offers the opportunity to manage contract manufacturers, lead complex projects, optimize inventory management, and contribute to cross-functional integration efforts for new and transferred business lines.

This position is ideal for a driven and strategic professional with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of procurement experience-preferably within the MedTech or pharmaceutical sectors.

Our vision for Medication Management Solutions at BD

With our technical capabilities, the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) team are able to manage multiple systems and our operational capabilities enable us to have medications available when and where needed, reducing inefficiency and waste for nursing and pharmacy teams.

About the role

The Procurement Manager plays a crucial role in managing a company's purchasing activities, focusing on developing cost-effective procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the efficient procurement of materials and services. As a senior member of the Operations Team, this role is dedicated to enhancing the company's competitiveness and ensuring growth and delivering to customer expectations in key platforms.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Developing Procurement Strategies: Create cost-effective strategies for purchasing materials and services.
  • Supplier/Stakeholder Management: Maintain and develop relationships with suppliers, scout for new vendors, and manage the purchasing interface with contract manufacturers and 2nd Tier suppliers.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct cost analysis, set benchmarks for improvement, and drive procurement/purchasing-based cost reduction to meet or exceed platform goals.
  • Risk Management: Develop procedures to mitigate losses in case of product shortages or line stops and manage supply chain risk.
  • Contract Manufacturer Management: Manage Contract Manufacturer purchasing activities based on agreed T&Cs.
  • Project Management: Ensure procurement deliverables are met, manage project spend, and lead project reviews and report-outs to senior leadership.
  • Integration Management: For new and transfer business, manage the set-up of the supply chain with any inventory transfer, driving the execution of the plan to timescales.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure adequate buffer and safety stock arrangements to optimise the ability to service un-forecasted customer demand. Manage and mitigate excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory and Inventory Carrying Costs.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse data and produce reports on spending and savings.


About you

  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional procurement experience (strategic sourcing), ideally in the Pharmaceutical or Medtech sector. Experience preferred in an operational/manufacturing environment
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (MCIPS) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are preferred.

Compensation range for the role: £75.000 to £85.000
